Hate using it in browser, but Memmy app is awesome, so for me it’s “mobile only” as of now. We need a proper desktop client

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It has a PWA, use that to get the "app" feeling.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I guess I’ll have to learn what PWA is as well as improve my understanding of how Fediverse works. 😅 It’s all very new to me

Wefwef.app is what your looking for i love wefwef

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Doesn’t come close to a good desktop experience, feels more like Instagram

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

You're right, that's a mobile client. I don't know why they'd recommend that.

There's https://alexandrite.app/ in development currently for desktop

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

oh and also https://mlmym.org/ - makes it look pretty much exactly like old.reddit

Progressive Web App, it's the "modern" kind of apps

Installing the PWA is simple (in Chrome). In the URL bar at the right side on the Lemmy homepage, you should see a little install icon that looks like a monitor with a downward facing arrow. Click that, and it will install the site like an app.

Have you tried http://mlmym.org on desktop? It’s like old.reddit

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can I ask why? I've felt the browser experience is significantly better than any app I've tried so far. At least for lemmy.world it is.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It feels like using new reddit’s UI, while I got used to Reddit Enhancement Suite addon, which enhances old reddit’s UI.

Which instance did you try for that? Lemmy.world definitely didn't have a new reddit feel to me but I can't speak for the others.

I've seen there are some front-ends for desktop that you can use and there are some that make it look like old reddit. I haven't used any of them but you can try this one:

https://mlmym.org/lemmy.world/

I think you can just replace lemmy.world with whatever instance you use.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Of course I use lemmy.world, because at first I thought it was the one and only instance.

Maybe I’m wrong in terms of comparing it with new reddit UI, I’m sure that lemmy is way better, but viewing media isn’t as convenient as it was with RES addon.

I’m sure that things will get better soon. Memmy feels like Apollo at its early stages already.
