/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

From what I watched of Discovery, yes.

Okay admittedly I have stopped watching in season 3, but in my opinion what sums him up is 1) neurotic 2) ridiculously occupied with his emotions and personal life.

Completely unprofessional. Of course he gets by just fine because he is also the smartest guy in the universe and is irreplaceable to the operation of the ship, but if he were held to normal standards he would probably have lost his commission twice over.

Not knocking our stamets of course!

Honestly I agree but I also give him the credit that Starfleet was never something he wanted to be a part of in the first place. I LOVE the character and would change nothing about him but he's not Captain material. It sort of makes sense he doesn't have any of those qualities of a Captain when he was forced into service in the first place and really not that long ago. He was pulled in during the Klingon war and the shows events happen either during that or not long after so he's still pretty fresh to the fleet overall.

Completely right about the unprofessionalness too. That seemed to be allowed in Starfleet moreso in their early history, looking at you Bones and Scotty, but even Stamets pushes that at times. Chain of Command is more of a loose organizational structure to him than a true chain of command and that does hurt me a little personally. I feel like he'd probably be able to put the good of the ship before himself (We did see him sacrifice himself with the hundred-odd microjumps in Season 1) if absolutely needed but also that he'd never want to be in that position in the first place.

Couldn't agree more. Good point about Bones and Scotty, Stamets has that maverick energy. He's not captain material, but it'd be incredibly boring if every character was

Yeah, my first thought was a clear lack of stoicism. Accepting the hard things and enduring forward fast because a Captain must. Everyone is depending on that. I can imagine this guy trying his hardest and then just breaks; blanks out, freezes up, is overwhelmed by what has happened and what is happening, instead of only thinking about what's coming next, which is what Captain's have to do and actually do.

The logical Captain performs well from remaining cool. The emotional Captain performs well by being selfless above all. He is clearly neither if something is personally impacting him.

To simplify, this guy would be good if he were more Vulcan.
