this was an interesting conversation and got me to wondering who the cool little gay people in my phone think was the least terrible person who sometimes must have to stand naked

Grant was the best human being to be president

FDR was the most influential, in a positive sense

Carter did the least amount of heinous shit

Yeah, this sounds like a really reasonable list

In terms of "most influential, in a positive sense," I feel like LBJ at least deserves a mention too. Lots of stuff people just assume has been around forever like Head Start and PBS/NPR and Medicare came from his administration (plus all the civil rights acts). If it wasn't for the whole ramping up the Vietnam war thing and all the sexual harassment he did he'd be an easy favorite for me.

He had a legendarily sized Johnson that he called Jumbo. What did you want him to do with it, exactly? Not swing it around in front of staffers and cabinet members?

What about Teddy Roosevelt? He started what would evetyallt become the FDA, regulated business far more than any who cane before him, and was a trust-buster. Not to mention his conservation policy or his negotiating skills in the Russo-Japanese war. The Square Deal was great and I love conservation, but his outspoken imperialism isn't amazing, but I'd still rank him pretty highly.
