Power over Ethernet. Really simplifies things. Some products from brands like amcrest (provided you do not sign up for any cloud services) are generally secure and cheap, for the intro level. This at least mitigates the risk as described in the article.

Massive asterisk that privacy is a big topic and more sophisticated setups are obviously better and more secure. They don't take that much more work, and can run off an old laptop and some other hardware and software.
