Are there any communities you've not yet seen on kbin that you used to visit on Reddit?

Edit: So a lot of people don't know this, you can search for magazines on kbin here - https://kbin.social/magazines

you are viewing a single comment's thread

Since Lemmy and Kbin are federating now, maybe you’ll find something in line with what you’re looking for, like maybe https://lemmy.world/c/motorcycles would work for you. :)

Edit: As per notation, [email protected] or @[email protected] should be better formatting.

Interesting, that community doesn't show anything when I browse to it from kbin.

What I'm doing is clicking the magazines button at the top of the kbin page and searching for motorcycles. I see kbin.social/m/motorcycles which is where I've posted and commented. At the end of the search list I see the lemmy.world/c/motorcycles community, but it shows no activity and only 1 subscriber. When I click on it, I get a message saying "The magazine from the federated server may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance."

When I click the link to browse more, it takes me to the actual lemmy.world page where there is a bit of content and I can see that there are roughly 250 subscribers.

Maybe I'm not understanding how federation works, because I was under the impression that I was supposed to be able to interact with communities from lemmy.world (or other federated instances) from within kbin.social. I must be missing something and I consider myself somewhat technical so I imagine this is extra confusing for someone non-technical.

Things have been hit and miss for the last day or so in terms of viewing other communities on other instances. You may find that in a few hours it's showing posts when browsing from kbin, I'm seeing other ones that were empty now starting to show posts and comments.

Maybe there are issues with the data being synced back and forth not happening as expected and what I'm observing is unintended behavior.

I'm quite new to all of this so don't take my word as gospel but I agree with you. Earnest, the 'admin' of this instance has said he's working on getting the stability of kbin taken care of so it's only going to get better as time passes.

It's having an explosion of new users, magazine creation and general activity so it's probably going to take some time to catch up and upgrade accordingly.

Hey I'm new too! We're all figuring this out together, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

It works from kbin if you remove the exclamation mark https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]. Still a bit glitchy and it's not fully populated since the first visit from kbin was only 2 hours ago.

I would prefer if you use the format of @[email protected]. I wish there was a way to do links like that universally

Sorry, I’m very new to Lemmy and I was also posting from a mobile app so I just pulled the community. I’m not fully versed on the difference between how kbin communities name their short name versus Lemmy and I was pretty sure the ! didn’t work but I didn’t know it was @

I’ll store that away for the next time.
