I love Joel but the ending where it was like "SPONSERED BY BALDUR'S GATE 3" really woke me up to realize I just watched a 6-and-a-half-minute ad and that's it. In fact, I feel like if he had put at the start of the video, I would have taken it a whole lot differently.

I first thought it was a joke, but no, it’s legit, lol. Just makes me appreciate Larian more.

Yeah, I was caught off guard by it and thought it was a joke but it seemed clear by the end it was Joel's way of displaying that the video was a paid ad. IMHO, is far too late in the video to display such information.

Why do you appreciate Larian more? Larian is just paying people to make ads. A lot of studios don't even do their own marketing and just pay ad agencies. Either way seems silly to praise Larian for paying for ads.

I think he means he's praising Larian for choosing Joel to make an ad for them. His humor is not exactly mainstream

He has 1.8 million subs and makes videos about fantasy universes and video games. He's an obvious choice IMHO. Also again, unlikely anyone at Larian said "yes, him exactly" and more that an ad agency sent out emails to contacts and worked with people to pick the best and most able.

Exactly. That kind of stuff is not what many companies would approve to officially represent their product. Then again, it is weirdly on brand of course …

Favorite line: “This guy fuckin’ rules.”

Runner up: “If I knew you were this bad at hiding, I wouldn’t have hired you.”

Love this guy’s videos. They are hilarious. You definitely need to watch the RPG series if you like this one. Other honorable mentions are the Curious George one and the Lanky Kong one

Adventure awaits! Huzzah!

Only stumbled over his stuff today, but yeah that’s a … special kind of humor. Right up my alley.

First one I saw was the YouTube algo showing me the Lanky Kong vid a few months back, but yeah, he has a unique, slightly dark sense of humor. The RPG one had me rolling though. An absolute gem in my book. Thanks for sharing this one. I hadn’t seen it

Really humble dude too. His callout of SNL ripping off his Charmin Bear skit was one of the most wholesome reactions I've seen

Everyone else gets cool parts, but lankey Kong SUCKS ASS :(

I'm sorta no-lifing BG3 at the moment, and this had me in stitches!

Unfortunately, this video incepted these mental dice rolls in my head, and today for sure I'll be laughing at weird times during work meetings.

hey remember how WOTC hired the pinkertons a few months back

Aren't they a literal mob?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Maybe, probably stronger than a cat though. Most likely have commoner statblock.

I sometimes think about how many wimpy commoners fall to the might of my party. And then think about how I am a commoner in real life and would likely be just as wimpy. And then I push that though down and go back to my fantasy statblock of might.

I kind of always wanted an RPG of severely under-powered normal folks in over their heads who survive through luck, absurdity, and definitely not knowing what they're doing or actually having the tools or knowledge to succeed. As in so inept that they aren't even trying to save the day, it ends up being kind of an accident.

Earthbound sort of had this type of feel initially, but then quickly loses it. Another aspect of Earthbound I like is it being set in the modern world. Controlling a bunch of weird slackers in a shitty van barely escaping inexplicable lovecraftian horrors a la some sort of video game Scooby Doo sounds like fun. You can do things like drink beers to take the edge off, but you have to try not to get too drunk or you might not be able to drive the van to escape.

Superhero League of Hoboken is kinda like this, albeit has a post apocalyptic setting mostly.

But a band of mostly or totally useless “heroes” fighting for good or something.

This guy needs to save his game before he rolls so he can reroll.

Any chest-high walls in this vid?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

different energy but the absurdity of it reminds me of this korean playstation commercial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEN00wMFB2A

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah! That’s a classic.
