This happened to me, except it was an antivaxxer coworker, and he gave me his preventable disease right before I was supposed to be going on an international ski trip with friends for my birthday. I wanted to murder him :)

Just get a window AC if you have the right type of windows. Otherwise, a dual hose portable heat pump from costco or other reputable source.

PFAS-fouled sewage sludge, which is used as a cheap alternative to fertilizer

Well, considering that toilet paper is full of PFAS to help it break down super easily, yeah, I'm not surprised.

Either make TP without PFAS, which will make it jam up pipes more, or use a bidet.

Stay and vote. The way I see it, Canada is fucked if PP wins anyways, and will be hurt by Trump regardless. Europe is fucked if the alt right wins in France and hobbles Germany in the next couple elections. Nigel Farage is going to parasitically eat the conservatives from the inside out in the UK. Trump will pull put of NATO, which means war on Europe's doorstep and probably all of south east Asia if China decides they don't mind war.

Running isn't going to work. Voting and protesting and political action is what will keep us all at peace and ever vigilant against populism and later, fascism. All hope isn't lost. We still can undo the damage and categorically reject hate and corruption that is threatening democracies worldwide (and already dooming authoritarian countries with massive population gaps and economic damage)

About 41,000 Americans die in fatal car accidents, with another 289,000 injured in 2022 alone, from distracted driving. If we are going to be banning dangerous things, heavy consumer cars and trucks should probably be right up there.

You wash your ass every time you take a shit, even when at work? :P

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Yeah, that was a bit depressing. The PFAS make it a lot more water soluble. My guess is that old TP didn't break down very well at all, and was kinda splintery (or at least more paper-y).

Luckily, the bidet removes much of that as long as you don't use TP. And for those that have bad pipes or a septic system, I think a bidet is an invaluable part of saving you lots of money, since you aren't packing extra material down the pipes.

Interesting tree, too! What is is it?

My BF and I are getting married soon! :D

I'm super excited. We live across borders, so I will finally be able to live with him. So much more time for fun stuff like camping and climbing, and even just normal stuff like reading or cooking together.

Cross platform compatibility is super cool!

I agree. The hardware and overdrive integration are sweet. But borrowing books is difficult, and borrowing books usually involves a multi-week wait.

I generally do a blend of physical and ebooks now.

Really, nobody needs to be going faster than 28mph downtown, anyways. The only vehicles that should be going that fast or faster downtown are BRTs, trams, and light+ heavy rail. 18-20 mph is what we should be aiming for for cars, just like we do for active school zones and construction zones. Speed humps and narrow roads to force cars to slow down. That minimizes pedestrian deaths and injuries, and pushes people towards public transit and biking/ebiking.

There are geothermal solutions for geothermal features near the surface already. This article is about advances in deep geothermal solutions: 15,000+ feet of pipe, deep into the earth. Utilizing the falling cost of horizontal drilling equipment from the fracking industry, there are now solutions to drill 10,000 feet down, and 5,000 feet sideways to improve the likelihood of running into superheated rock. Currently, drilling will be limited to geothermally gifted areas of America, but may be able to expand to less fortunate areas as the technology improves and gets even less expensive.

Looks like critical thinking deteriorates above 72f/22c. Crime swings higher. Lowering your core temperature seems to help, even if you live in a climate with unavoidable heat.

For context, a water main blew, and the city of Calgary has been under strict water rationing for the past handful of days. The new pipe should arrive later this week from California :)

It's pretty cool that the government has a department that can delicately extract damaged money and return new bills to people. I wish this article went into the process of how they do it!

They found a plant thought to be exinct in the area, and got super excited when they found it. Seeds have been forwarded to a seed bank. The article is worth a read and is fairly short :)

It was a very unlikely win. Some, if not all players on this team have day jobs.

In effect, Mr. Trump’s candidacy is becoming a referendum on what kind of justice system the country believes it has now and wants to have in the future
