Fun fact, Oregon's name traces back to Iberian scouts referring to Celilo Falls "Very Loud Water"

The largest fish migration in the world used to pass through these falls, including the nearly 100 pound "June Hog" strain of Chinook Salmon. That strain has been wiped out by the loss of environment due to damming and fish populations are in a downward spiral to this day

The audio is from a radio show in the 90s covering salmon being added to the Endangered Species Act

The etymology of Oregon mentined seems to be incorrect, cause from what I've seen no one really knows where Oregon comes from, and the only Iberian origin I've seen refers to the ears of the natives, orejon, means big ear.

Yeah I guess it's just one folk etymology of many but the explanation is a Portuguese sailor who called it "Ouve água" (hear water) because they heard the river from far away
