They said argue with thousands of people, clearly not referring to Lemmy niche communities.

Uhh, do you read here?! ๐Ÿ˜‚

[-] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago

Do you? "Thousands" is the word in question here

[-] [email protected] 13 points 2 weeks ago

Argue with dozens of people! Dozens!

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

You are correct. Just us tens! ๐Ÿ˜‚

To get serious for a second though: this is real and legit. You can find real happiness in the community that comes with a niche fandom.

It's covered in this podcast if you're interested: The Happiness Lab with Dr Laurie Santos - Nerd Out! The Happiness of being a Fan.

Literally why I'm here

[-] [email protected] 15 points 2 weeks ago

I'm in this photo and I don't like it.

Don't join niche communities on lemmy tho, or you'll end up arguing with yourself

Better than playing with yourself

It's no longer fun for me

Damn sometimes content creation is the way to go. Something like VAM. You don't need VR headset. A bit of learning curve but making your own custom scenes in POV view may help of you got a decent PC.

Like a community about arch?

I guess it's not really niche at this point.

Btw, I don't run arch.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

What happens when the niche communities aren't even enjoyable any more?

Congratulations you're experiencing burnout and/or depression!

You can look forward to such exciting prospects as society telling you to just "feel better" and gaslighting yourself into thinking you're just lazy!

But wait there's more! If you act right now you can also experience self loathing for not being you're best self for your loved ones!

In all seriousness help is available. Take time to reconnect with yourself and seek out resources. Lean on your friends when you need to. Healing is a process and it doesn't happen all at once.

I'm already in a number of communities about beige nineties computers, thank you very much.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

I would say "thousands" is not really "niche" but yeah, I love small communities. It's how I started on the internet, and it's finally where I'm back at now

I need to send this to a colleague right now.

You leave my unhealthy obsessions out of this!

I wish the edc community on Lemmy was active

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

If I may ask as an edc lurker, I love the idea of edc, but how do you carry so many useful gadgets? If I put stuff in my phone pocket then it scratches up my phone. If I put stuff in my key/wallet pocket then it unlocks my car randomly. I would carry my lathe in my pocket if it was feasible.

Use a fanny pack. It's ok to wear them again and will put you ahead of the "cool" curve

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

Do I need to wear some sort of special technical fabric fanny pack? I donโ€™t want to inhibit the progress of the pioneers.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Nope! It's a whole new fanny pack world for you to re-create

[-] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

I generally don't carry that much on me. Phone in left pocket, Leatherman, keys, and pen in right pocket. Wallet and notebook in back pockets. Any more than that goes in my work backpack.

Looking at you, the bird's papaya

A lot of people took this at face value. Even myself at times.
