Lunges were my favorite part of fencing. Surprised I didn't rip more pants than I already did, though.
Shit ok I do really need to get back on that horse after falling into a depressive episode. I'm working late but tomorrow I'll get back into it
after falling into a depressive episode
Same thing happened to me. It's a lot of work, and my partner kinda doesn't care how fit i am (which is good I guess but it removes motivation). But you know what? It's gosh dang important to have regular exercise. Now get up, go on, and row your way to an endorphin high!

Can I just swing a kettlebell around for 15-60 minutes instead?

KB swings are an excellent workout
Hell yeah. Rowing machines are the shit!
A fascist worked out today, did you?
Don't have a rowing machine but I kind of want a dinghy I can row, thanks for reminding me
DON'T ROW WITH BAD FORM YOUR BACK WILL HATE YOU!
Add my name to the periodic rowing reminder list.
How do I build upper body strength from literally nothing?
get on the rowing machine and set the resistance to the highest you can manage without hurting yourself and go from there
and/or do some pushups and dumbbell exercises with light weights and then get on the rowing machine, but I mean like the minimum resistance on the rower is so low I think anyone who can move their own arms can manage it
if regular pushups are too difficult you can do them from your knees instead of your feet (called modified pushups) which reduces the weight/increases your leverage (which means they're not as good for building strength, but if you gotta start somewhere then hey. The important thing is "do you feel strain from doing this" because if Yes that means you will get stronger from it eventually)
and most importantly good luck and remember to just stick with it. Exercise is hard and doesn't feel great, but it's important to take care of yourself, and if you commit and dedicate yourself to a sufficiently strenuous workout routine I promise you will see results in the mirror and in how you feel within like, a month at most. They might not be significant changes like "woah I'm jacked" but you will see progress and that'll help keep you going
godspeed
