Probably about once a month I drive past these protestors at a fertility clinic. They are always protesting abortion and saying how so many babies die there.

This particular clinic does not perform abortions at all. Ever. It never has.

Today one of their signs also said "babies are orphanized here." What does that even mean? Do they think parents are killed there? Or is it because people leave their embryos stored there?

Do they also think babies are "orphanized" at hospitals when a parent leaves their room to go to the cafeteria?

I just can't understand these people.

They're not really protesting abortions, they're terrorizing women's healthcare providers. Now you understand.

Never forget, the cruelty is the point.

They don't give a fuck about babies or fetuses. Never have. They just want to hurt women.

I see this come up all the time, but I feel like it misses the mark in describing the average dumbass.

The people that propagate the mindset want to hurt women. The people that follow them just want to be part of an exclusive club. It's the same logic that religion uses. People like to feel included, and they like to know that there are others who aren't. They won't ever admit to the latter, but there's a reason they do this shit instead of being reasonable and joining a fucking club or going to hang out with friends.

The women protesting in that group don't wake up in the morning wondering how they can hurt other women. They wake up happy that they're part of the cool club and ready to fuck over anyone not in it with them.

It's a stupid distinction, but I feel like it has to be made... for whatever reason. They're still terrible people.

Nah, not all of them.

There's a lot of them that are convinced that they're right because God said so. They're batshit, but they really believe, and that's more dangerous

Damn homie. Don't attack people with the same level of ignorance you are trying to defend against. While most people devoted enough to religion to have it influence how they vote may not be the brightest tool in the shed but that doesn't make them evil hearted people. Theyre brought up under a singular understanding that abortion is killing babies. Every single person I know who doesn't support freedom of choice is doing it because they believe they are preventing babies from being killed.

You're right, but as the others have mentioned, it's a spectrum of stupid on one end and evil on the other... the folks who land on the stupid end are being manipulated by the ones on the evil end, so either directly or one step removed, the cruelty is still the point.

Maybe I shouldn't judge the pawns by the hand that placed them, but I'm so tired of seeing evil get a free pass because it was committed by the village idiot.

I think that was kinda the point I was trying to make lol. There is so fucking much evil around that we shouldn't shit on the stupid like they're the evil ones. I might also be more lecturing myself because I know I have little patience for stupid and try as I might to have more patience or unde4standing it's hard at the end of the day not to not feel the truth behind the saying "you cant fix stupid." But who the fuck knows anymore. 🍻

If these people were any smarter or had better critical thinking skills they probably wouldn't be out protesting for pro-life causes in the first place. These are the kind of people who will believe in whatever crazy conspiracy theories get fed to them, they've probably been conditioned from a young age to believe crazier and crazier things. Their worldview has them believing that taking things on faith is a virtue, that the less evidence you have for something, the more believable it is. As long as it comes from somebody semi-charismatic and it makes them feel good about themselves, it's the literal word of God.

The more extreme people think that IVF is murder too since several fertilized embryos go into cryro rather than being used. They're a little crazy.

Just a little bit

They protest at a planned parenthood in a strip mall here. It can’t be seen from the road, but they protest near the road. There’s always at least one person in the middle of the day, almost always some old dude (but not the same old dude).

Makes them look like they are protesting the pet supply place. Or a burger joint. If not for them I wouldn’t even have known there was a planned parenthood there.

Also doesn’t do abortions. Not even the medication ones. They screen you and send you to another location that does, last I heard.

It's actually really consistent and bold - it's also the least popular way to advance the movement because plenty of casually pro-life people would stop and go "Huh" if forced to think about their views and IVF.

It is perhaps a bit stupid but it has the same big dick energy of flying Palestinian flags at an unremarkable, modern, liberal Jewish synagogue - take the fight everywhere, all the time.

This makes sense. Thank you for this perspective
