The republic was already in peril.

By this time next year, if all goes as Trump and his cronies and coattail-riders have explicitly and repeatedly clearly stated they fully intend, the republic won't be in peril - it'll be dead, and a plutocratic/christofascist oligarchy under the rule of an all-powerful dictator will have been built on its corpse.

That threat didn't suddenly spring into being yesterday - it's been there all along.

Truth. But it is unique in one way - they printed their raving bashit crazy scheme this time. Proj 2025 should end anyone participant's political careers - full stop, if you put your name on the fascism plan, you don't get to sit in government.

This should haunt every one of these fucks for the rest of their lives.

Something tells me that the union will be fractured by that time

I just hope everyone realizes the problems are not your republican or Democrat neighbors, it's the people at the top. That's the difference between a civil war and a revolution.

In no way am I condoning violence, but according to this article it is apparently inevitable.

You can't walk around making decisions that lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people while disenfranchising a large majority of the population for your own personal gain and be surprised when one of the 330 million people in your country finally had enough. Especially in America where we pride ourselves revolutions and our defense against a tyrant government.

Also, 24 hour news that has everything to gain by getting people all pissed off at each other doesn't help.

A dropped stochastic terrorism has no handle, I think

I sincerely hope the takeaway will be to keep this psycho away from the Oval Office. His violent rhetoric is what has led to this. Want more? Let him be elected

His violent rhetoric is what has led to this.

Right? I only watched one news clip on this. But apparently political leaders from all over the world send their best wishes, including figures like Zelensky, who would be threatened to lose the war against Russia if Trump gets elected.

My first thoughts were "Sow the wind and reap the whirlwind".

I mean, I agree with what the other leaders said; violence has no place in politics. But that's an argument to remove Trump, not to protect him. Letting him run for election is asking for more political violence either way. Systematically if he wins, and more uprising attempts, like last time, if he loses.

Are people really taking those statements as actual support?? Politicians have to come out and condemn things like that. Everyone kinda knows it's just lip service, but it would be weirder if they didn't say anything. It's just tradition. It's not like Zelensky or Obama or Sanders actually want to protect Trump's ability to run now. But I do think they're glad he wasn't assassinated, because that would have made everything worse.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Yeah but see you’re using reason and logic there. Right-wing media defeats reason and logic.

The right has been pushing this for years. Scott Adams (on Twitter) has repeatedly asked what Democrats would be willing to do to stop Hitler, since they think Trump is Hitler. At the time it was a laughably transparent attempt to convince people the 2020 election was rigged.

I have not looked, but I expect he has already retweeted his "Republicans will be hunted" post from years ago.

The best way for America to get past this dark fascist chapter of its history is to have a large Biden win this election to finish off the MAGA movement and bring back the proper Republican party and beliefs, not just this cultist crap.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 month ago

You're delusional if you think Biden winning is going to make the Republican Party revert to "proper" beliefs.

They've always been fascists, it's just been a waiting game for when they could go mask off about it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

This is who Republicans always were. It's the same people. They just embraced this and made it their whole personality, the moment that was socially acceptable.

'Oh no, he almost faced consequences' is such bizarre hand-wringing at this point.

'His followers will be violent!' There was a failed coup.

'He'll espouse violent rhetoric and the news will cover it!' Where ya been?

'He might be a martyr!' He already said he'd be a dictator - just the tip, honey, just to see how it feels! What the fuck else are we worried about? These motherfuckers have a big stupid Powerpoint with a publicly-known title that outlines their authoritarian wet dream slash stated policy goals.

Someone finally trying the obvious solution cannot be a catalyst if we're already fucking catalyzed.

It depends, dunnit.
