Im amazed at how epic is fucking up their success with Fortnite and the unreal engine. Valve transformed the good will from HL into a fucking empire dominating pc gaming distribution, and it just kept the end user in mind just a bit but still tried all it could to make profit.

Epic can't stop fucking up the end users' rights and thus are getting beaten

I remember we all Fucking haaaated steam at first. Eating up the precious few mb of ram we had, requiring special switching to offline mode for our crappy dialup internet, and really only serving as the drm for halflife and counterstrike.

Yeah, I remember all of the vitriol we spewed at them when it felt like Steam was first being "shoved down our throats".

But they really are a high-water mark for listening to your customers and acknowledging their feedback to produce positive change for your platform.

Now some 20 years later it really feels like most other interfaces don't provide the level of service and usability that Steam does.

Any complaints and grievances are always valid about their business practices, the percentage cut that they take and all of the other things. You can't however say that the platform hasn't been a boon for PC gaming. Especially on Linux where proton has opened up a whole new world of accessibility especially for games that are too old to run with any sort of consistency on modern Microsoft OSs.

It's hard to be mad when they shove a load of that money to improve pc gaming and boost Linux compability .

I honestly didn't make a Steam account until they came to Linux, because that's when I saw value in the platform. They didn't even have Proton or anything, I just liked being able to find Linux-compatible games. When Proton came, I started spending a ton on the platform, and that's around the time Humble Bundle started sucking (I used to pay way more than the minimum if it had good Linux bundles).

So I'm doing my part to reward Valve for investing in Linux.

Epic, GOG, etc could have won my business by doing what Valve did, but Epic does the opposite and GOG only gives lip service.

And yet, much like Valve, they still have yet to release the third installment of their flagship product. When am I getting Jazz Jackrabbit 3???

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

They did release UT 3... But not unreal 3 🤔

Just like other the fallout games on epic hopefully some nice person will create a patch for the exe.

It more sounds like the mod won't work on the most current version of FO4, and because you can't install older versions on Epic, it won't work.

That's a shockingly misleading title, even for vidya game "journalism".

The headline is still true, I'm not sure what you think is misleading about it

[–] [email protected] -4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Things can be true and also be misleading.

This is just shitty clickbait journalism. A more accurate headline "Anticipated Fallout 4 mod won't work on current Fallout 4 versions" wouldn't get the engagement and clicks that a more provocative bullshit title that indicates that Epic won't let you play it does.

The mod includes everything needed to downgrade other stores' copies. To the end user, the idea is to make it as transparent as possible. This will work on Steam (with some work) and GOG (with less work), but not Epic(at all). Calling out one storefront unnecessarily would be "provocative bullshit" but in this case, it matters.

So... What you're saying is that it won't work on Epic?

Considering video game journalism is literally the worst and most incompetent form of Journalism it's not all that shocking
