So Russia steals valued land so they have warm water port for their Navy.
Ukraine, a nation without a Navy, then makes Crimea untenable for Russian naval vessels.
Russian entire narrative collapsed after Ukraine survived first few months.
I am not sure how Russia recovers as great power now.

Yeah, recent analysis of Russian stores show they are really hurting for military equipment too. At the going rates of depletion vs manufacturing/repair my unprofessional guess is they have at most 18 months before they are completely exhausted of tanks and artillery. They already avoid using their air force and the navy has retreated.
One of the main reasons given for Russia invading Crimea in 2014 was to secure its largest warm water naval base, Sevastopol, after the ouster of their puppet Ukrainian president Yanacovich following Euromaiden. So even with all the russian effort since 2014, they STILL lose Sevastopol as a naval base.
I guess Putin really doesn't want them sinking another multi-million dollar death machine with a drone that costs a thousand bucks.
This is cruitial. The Russian navy is needed to defend ships supplying Crimea. This leaves only two options to resupply Crimea namely the Kerch bridge and the land corridor through the occupied territories of Ukraine. I hope the F16 come with some proper long range weapons to blow up the Kerch bridge. That would make cutting the land corridor much easier. However even today Himars and similar longer range systems are able to make transport on the land bridge much harder. To be fair air supply is also an option, but Ukraine is getting F16 and more air defence systems, while Russia has too few planes for it to be a real option.
This war started in Crimea and if Ukraine wants to win, it will end in Crimea.
