100% lol. The “facts” in quotation marks gives it away

Reminds me of a post of an anti-vaxer looking for facts to prove vaccines don’t work… Anyway, had to lol so hard, so thank you internet stranger to brighten up my morning!

hear about random claim from someone in passing.

have absolutely zero evidence to support this claim, but decide it's now a cornerstone of my belief system.

instead of doing something sensible like researching unbiased information to critically analyze the claim, I decide that the best course of action is to only seek out information that confirms my pre-existing belief.

this is because my brain operates on a monkey level of logic and stubbornness. once an idea nestles itself into my grey matter, the mere thought of it being incorrect would shatter my delicate ego into a million pieces. admitting I could be wrong is a fate worse than any cognitive dissonance I might experience.

You're sooooo close to an epiphany buddy.

The far-right psychos running reddit were fine with the racism, misogyny, and homophobia; including all the discussion about how this or that person should be executed. What they finally objected to was talking about shooting police.

I thought it was hilarious that they'd bitch about Twitter censorship in the most heavily wrong-thinked community I've ever seen. Like, the .ml mods WISH they could be that heavy handed.

Ah yes that's right.

I had the best and worst of time there

My dad does this and it pisses me off to no end...

I do HOURS of my own research to find relevant data to prove points and his reply is always some bullshit Sean Hannity rant or some insanely biased fox article with an absurd headline like "evil baby killing Demonrats want to kill everyone!" like that article contains anything of merit...

I feel you. I just spent a week with a brother-in-law who works for NATO and is still voting for Trump, the candidate that wants to dismantle NATO. The cognitive dissonance is real.
