Turns out Outlook sucks ass for anything not part of an office365 subscription, so I'm looking for something else. Preferably open source, preferably available via F-Droid.

Been using K-9 Mail for a long time, works fine for me. I usually install it through Google Play but it does seem to be on F-Droid too.

Big +1 for K-9. I considered switching to an iPhone after breaking my previous Android phone, but two apps, K-9 and an actual real Firefox, kept me on Android. It's a great mail reader, and I struggle to imagine having to use something else.

K-9 Mail is my go to as well. It was bought by Mozilla a little while back to be the mobile app for Thunderbird. Still waiting on it to be fully integrated as a mobile Thunderbird app, but it's nice knowing all the data is handled by Mozilla until then at least.

I just wish K9 would support nested folders in the sidebar instead of flattening them.

I switched to iOS so I might not be up to date but I thought K9 was paid?

Maybe it’s iOS but some FOSS things come with a minimal fee to support the dev fees for the App Store

Both, sort of? It always had a free version along with a paid version that I think existed mostly for donations than anything else.

That was before Mozilla took it over, now I don't think the paid version of the app even exists. I don't know if Mozilla will eventually rebrand it as Thunderbird Android version or something but I'm not worried about it as long as it still works.

"Took over" is a little bit misleading. The dev from k-9 and Mozilla have an agreement to work together he is now a mozilla-dev. And k-9 will be slowly converted to Thunderbird for android.

[–] otherbarry 3 points 3 months ago

That's fair, I wasn't aware of what their specific arrangement was. Sort of suspected the K-9 dev was hired by Mozilla or they agreed to work together, that's usually how these things go.

Ah, TIL it’s owned by mozilla

Good for privacy, IIRC the default is not to load any images/trackers in emails. Mine currently handles three imap accounts inc. a M$ one.
