General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

Oh Liz is a pro-trump speaker now? Odd but not surprising I suppose.

[–] [email protected] 50 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Oh yep, don't forget her bullshit about a woke UK deep state she said on her way out. Give it another 3 years and she'll have dropped to the level of headline guest at conspiracy conventions.

And the UK tax payer is forking out for her retirement with ex-PM pension she can now draw from! New rule, you've got to at least make it 1 year as PM before you qualify for the £100k a year pension.

Imagine what that cabbage is on! A wedge I bet.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 weeks ago

Then there's her resignation honours list...

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago

Or at least outlast a lettuce.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

She’ll suckle at whatever titty is lactating. What’s the alternative, a real job?!

Plenty of corps will pay her high 6 figures to sit on their board of directors to use her government contacts to their advantage.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago

I think most of her contacts don't have much power now. Her party is a rump now and her wing of it disgraced. Also, she is toxic to PR.

I love Led By Donkeys, and fuck Liz Truss and any Tory, but why are they wasting their resources on an ex-ex-PM who isn't even in parliament anymore? It's not like we've exactly run out of serving donkeys to target..

[–] [email protected] 37 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

I can't imagine it cost that much to do it, it also puts the focus on her work trying to get Trump elected, and reminds everyone (or even informs Americans) of what she did. I assume LBD are also trying to help derail the Trump campaign.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

I guess, but as far as I know, they're funded by donations (and are meant to be focused on UK politics, not US), so it's not like they've got a bunch of cash to splash about, and I really don't think Truss is worthy of them wasting any resources on, she's best left to be ignored by history as the failure that she was, not kept relevant when she really isn't.

I get that she's easy and enjoyable to make fun of, but even if it is about indirectly targeting trump, and they really do want to influence not only local but global politics, there are much better targets.

But hey, not my money, not my choice, just my personal opinion.. ¯\(ツ)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Why are they meant to be focussed on anything, do they have a manifesto which says they only do that? They have done stunts related to Trump before (when he was in the UK), so this isn't out of their modus operandi.

Truss has kept herself active politically, so she's fair game. She hasn't been held to account for what she did, and she hasn't allowed herself to be ignored by maintaining her grift.

I'm a donor to Led By Donkeys and I fully support this action. The election of Trump would be bad news for both our countries, and all the other ones, and anything that recalls how terrible the last government was in the minds of the British public is constructive.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

I'm a relatively-informed American (or at least, I try to be) but I'm drawing a blank here. What did she do again?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 weeks ago

She was British prime minister for a few weeks. She was booted out because her 'strategy' to 'revamp' the British economy crashed it extremely quickly.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 weeks ago

Became Prime Minister, crashed the economy with Kwasi Kwarteng, killed the Queen, then said it wasn't her fault and that they should have gone further with their mini-budget. Now she's a Trumpette.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago

she crashed the economy by saying she was going to reduce taxes on the rich, so much so the bank of England had to step-in to shore up bonds.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

Because those Americans might not know who they are listening to. It's in our interest that American doesn't listen to people who tank economies. The world is very interconnected.

Maybe is recreational fun time for them? I mean the whole thing is literally a hobby for them, right? So seems to check out.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (2 children)

Like I said, not my money, not my decision, but none of that will change the fact that I think they're wasting their time and money on someone who needs to be removed from the public eye, not continued to be made relevant, and that there are people much more worthy of LBD's attention.

Because they’re centrist liberals, and attacking Starmer for not rejoining the EU or forcibly redistributing oligarchs’ mansions to the Unhoused or whatever isn’t in their agenda.

Maybe once the Tory kakistocrats have shuffled into their tarpit, they’ll start going after the Brexit elephant in the room, helping to push public opinion into rejoining the EU and drag Starmer along with it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

This is the sad truth.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Blame who you like, Brexit was an epic own goal. As was trump.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Vast, highly organised resources were behind both. It's depressing that the voting public was so easily deceived, but the volume of propaganda behind both Brexit and Trump was extraordinarily high.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

Indeed it was. And the source and funding of that propaganda is as much fascinating as it is predictable.

She left the stage because of a banner saying she crashed the economy.

She left number 10....because she crashed the economy.

Get fucked Truss.

Sorry to double-post in the same thread, but I really loved the John Oliver bit on her weird speech moments where she looked like she expected applause and didn't get any.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 4 weeks ago

How bloody dare you! You take that back immediately. Apologising for double posting? Are you taking the piss. If anything I'm grateful for the double posting. Please do it more!

Why she dressed like lettuce?
Did she leave over the dispute of them wearing the same dress? (I was not surprised which one lasted longer on stage)

[–] [email protected] 17 points 4 weeks ago

The way it kind of slooooowly came down was absolutely amazing

That picture has great meme potential

Thin skinned Liz.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

Can anyone put up the images for those that don't feel like going on X?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

Not sure why you got downvoted; I also get the “Something went wrong. Some privacy extensions may prevent X from working properly” error. And if viewing a photo requires me to disable privacy extensions, it’s not worth viewing.

I see, thnx, the X content doesn't load with me (on purpose) but searching the relevant terms on youtube gets the vids of both Truss and Farage

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

The video is in the article, along with pictures

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

I've filtered out all X content, so they dont show up. I found them on youtube, though on the advice of @Sara W
