Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

I haven't had fried chicken in a while now mind you, but both when I was a kid and my family would have leftover KFC, and as an adult in the rare occasion I do get fried chicken, I have always loved it more after it's been sitting overnight in the fridge.

Won't heat that shit in the microwave or nuthin, just eat it straight cold and love it like that.

For me fresh fried chicken is better than cold, but cold fried chicken is better than microwaved. In the rare event that I have left overs sometime I put it in friend rice lol

Better not eat too much chicken or you'll run out of friends.

Still says “friend rice” over here lol. Does your instance reflect edits?

I believe there's some federation problem lately? Oh well. I should be mindful of not eating all my friend chicken.

I don't know if it's better, but it's definitely good! Like cold pizza is good. It's just a different food.

Cold pizza is a better breakfast.

Do I upvote you because it's an unpopular opinion, or downvote you because it's wrong? 😂

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

Always upvote lol, though I understand the urge :)

Chicken is almost always best not reheated. You risk drying it out, and ruining the texture.

I've not tried it, but a couple of min in the air fryer might crisp up the breading without overcooking the meat.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I've done that often, and it's pretty good. French fries too, you can get one adequate reheat in an air fryer, but it's touchy... a couple of minutes at the temp that works best in your fryer, and nothing more, or they turn into garbage twigs. Still don't finish them and try it again? Garbage twigs. The line between ever so slightly overcrisped, yet still solid, leftover fries and garbage twigs is rather thin.

Re-oil and you will be fine for both.

If you're sticking with "better" then I think you've got an unpopular opinion there.

Still, it's good though.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago

Standing by it. Prefer it over fresh n hot.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 weeks ago

Cold fried chicken alone is not my preferred way of eating it; I love to use it in a salad! As it hits the spot only then for me, otherwise I gently reheat before eating. Cold pizza, that rates way higher for me.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago

looks at you like a weirdo

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago

Have to disagree. Good cold, but better warmed up, just like your mother.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

You monster. Have my angry upvote

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

I think how good cold fried chicken tastes depends very much on the type of oil it was fried in, and whether it's been overcooked and/or has sat under a heat lamp for too long. Under the right circumstances cold fried chicken can be fantastic. But it's pretty easy to make it bad.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

Your last sentence makes it a bit tough. I want to upvote as I think the fresh hot chicken is better but cold is not bad to the point I would rather do cold than microwave it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

Cold fried chicken is pretty good and so is cold pizza.

Dude. Core memory unlocked. I’ve been vegetarian for 20 years and vegan for 5ish…but cold fried chicken was the shit of my childhood. Maybe that explains a lot lol. But I’m with you brother/sister/other

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

My 4 yo kid agrees with you

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

I personally don't like it cold but I'm not surprised that you do - it gives seasoning more time to penetrate into the meat, and the texture gets really different.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

The problem isn't flavor, imo. Cold chicken is really good, in different ways from warm and hot. Dunno if I'd say better, but good in its own way.

It's texture. Doesn't matter what the temp is if the breading isn't good, and cold breading might taste fine, but the texture is crap. Might as well not have fried chicken at that point, just pick up a rotisserie chicken instead, and go to town with it cold.

But, yeah, definitely an unpopular opinion!

What. The. Fuck.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 3 weeks ago

I agree with you. My partner that his we are both nuts.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 3 weeks ago

Then you just haven't had good fried chicken. The shit from KFC or grocery stores wouldn't matter cause it was never good to begin with.
