Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?
-
Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.
-
This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.
-
Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.
-
No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.
-
Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
FAQ
I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?
-
This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.
-
Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.
What can I post?
- Anything you think is relevant to the mission of this community. Things will evolve over time.
- Topics and things relevant to EM and POC.

ASS in english, AES (Alliance des États du Sahel) in french
hopefully they become AES states tho lol
I always knew I loved ASS.
At first I considered that it would be very difficult to arrange the Sahel Allies into a single country, given that all three are operating via an interim military government and any sort of unification would require unifying said military hierarchies. But then I took a short look at the wikipedia page and then
On 6 July 2024, the military leaders at a summit in Niamey, Niger, signed a confederation treaty to strengthen the existing mutual defense pact. The signing marked the conclusion of the first joint summit of the alliance.[19] Two significant outcomes of the summit were:
- The naming of Colonel Assimi Goita, head of state of Mali, as president of the new confederation, for a period of one year.
- The 25 point AES communique of Saturday, July 6th 2024.
There's a long way between confederation and federation, but if they can agree to let Mali preside over the confederation for a year then maybe they can agree to something more binding in the future.

that's what i thought too. not a good idea in the short-term when it comes to unifying state structures like that

yeah they're making more progress than other unification projects i've seen (eg East African Federation) and that's great!
I have to admit I know nothing of the geopolitical situation there, but I always had a soft spot for Burkina Faso ever since I learned about Thomas Sankara.
Apart from telling France imperialism to fuck off, which is a good thing, do we know more about their plan for the future confederation?
On the other hand having a fascist private group (to my knowledge) like Wagner there to help you ensure security, sucks.
If the choice is between your former colonizers and the people fighting them, you will choose the latter

yeah that guy's a fucking legend

The confederation's stated goal is to pool resources to build energy and communications infrastructure, establish a common market, implement a monetary union under proposed currency the Sahel, allow free movement of persons, enable industrialization, and invest in agriculture, mines and energy sectors, with the end goal of federalizing into a single sovereign state.
this article talk has a lot of info
African Stream did some local interviews with activists in the Sahel, but their youtube channel was removed and idk where those videos are now. this is their website.

definitely. still actively supporting the ethnic cleansing and genocide the RSF has been committing in Sudan too.
Thanks for the various sources!
anytime!
huh
Yeah, Wagner and the RSF have been bad, but I'm also confused
So... sounds like African Dengism.
Based.
Uhh, based department? You're gonna wanna see this.
Is that last part about being linked to fundamentalists just a slander by the Western media because they dare go against imperialism?
oh, no, it's the groups that the AES states are fighting against
Omg I can't read so sorry 💀
nah that's okay comrade
Our enemies are confused, resting shocked
Then we shall chant with "alleluia"
Ah ca ira, ca ira
Despite the Takfiris, all will succeed!
