As a side note, I think they do understand. A dog would simply think, "My pack is interacting with me, giving me attention, and while i do nothing but enjoy they're preening, it seems to bring them joy, and that makes me happy."

They are all furry morons. I have three here, right now.
(assuming you mean creatures as in the strip and not Furries - few Furries seem to be morons from my limited experience)
Furries are simultaneously morons and rocket scientists/brain surgeons or whatever.
Source: Talked to a dog who literally worked for NASA on the Artemis Program.
Be nice to them, you never know when your lifesaving medication was made by a furry. :)
The creature violently moves its forward appendage, removing the deception before attacking and devouring it.
The creature will later violently vomit the deception's remains on the living room rug
It will then attempt to consume them again.
