No karma to speak of yet still so much karma whoring

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Karma got nothing to do with it. It’s all about being at the top of the pile.

Before Reddit and Digg, it was all about trying to get first comment on Slashdot.

first.

who would care about that anymore, if we can learn something from history is that we will definitely not commit the same mistakes? was it? I forgor 💀

Humans are always going to have stupid games to see who can be the first, or who can make it to the top of something. Is the entire foundation ESPN is built on.

It’s a phase, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Remember a week ago it was not pooping for 3 days? Something else will take the place of beans eventually.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago

Worked a 12 hour, basically on standby. All I had was my phone with 3 other dudes.. The bean memes are getting to me xD

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Woah people are pooping again? Thank God my stomach has been upset

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't think we've even hit 24 hours yet.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Got to go 3 days at least with out poop or talking shit about bean memes

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 year ago (3 children)

What's your problem with beans? Are you a bean hater? You best step off my bean-bros, bro!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

For real, the guys being a huge beanie baby.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

He hasn't bean having a good time. It's all he's bean thinking about. Pretty sad if you ask me.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Bean hater is too hard to type. I'll just call him a bater.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's a hole everybody's in a rush to fill. On Reddit there's those old classic posts/threads that we could all refer back to whenever it seemed relevant. Broken arms, what's new pussycat ect. Always someone new would ask what the deal was, and somewhere down that thread you'd find the link so you could revisit it again like an old friend. So far we have... beans.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're selling Lemmy short. Lemmy's got beans, AND the 3 days no pooping.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I stand corrected. We have beans and poop

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

No. No poop.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I don’t care for the bean memes, but hey, it’s making a few people happy haha. I’m for that.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

It’s generating content and clicks. Which is INCREDIBLY important for a social media. The content doesn’t have to be good, and obviously Lemmy isn’t the same as Reddit or other social media in terms of value of upvotes, or algorithms. However it’s important for USERS to see content that’s fresh hitting the front page. Even if it’s the same topic and shitposting. This helps attract other creators which in turn brings more users. It’s the shit circle of (social) life.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

They’re getting a bit overplayed at this point maybe. But they’re driving engagement on this site and engagement is the key to growth so I say have at it you beanie bois

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Agreed. The bean meme memes are where it's at now

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

It hasn't bean a few days, the original beans post was about 24hrs old when this was posted

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Considerably less annoying than John Oliver tbf

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I saw a post yesterday where someone said something to the effect of "I heard Lemmy will upvote anything here's a can of fucking beans" and I found it kind of funny. Was that actually part of a running joke? I haven't seen any other reference to beans. Before or since.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

That was the start of a meme, which spawned many bean memes today

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It wasn't originally intended to be a running joke, but it become one.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Better go catch it!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

It is stupid, but it hasn't even been a day. It will be fine.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

It’s almost like it wasn’t Reddit running jokes into the ground - it was people

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

The time has bean and gone

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Ah, it feels like home already.

I believe that post began the joke, the lemmy shitpost community just ran with the bean memes after that.
