News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

MODERATORS

Last night, I finally made the switch from Reddit to Lemmy. Honestly it was something I should have done a long time ago. I’d been hearing about Lemmy for a while, but I kept brushing it off because it seemed complicated or too niche or too techy. But after one too many encounters with power-hungry mods, desperate upvote chasers, and a flood of obvious bots, I hit my breaking point. I actually ended up learning more about Lemmy from people venting on Reddit itself, which was kind of ironic!!

I set up an account here, took a last look around Reddit, and bailed. Reddit used to feel like a genuine community, but now it's just a money-hungry platform, clearly trying to squeeze out every dollar as it spirals down. Lemmy might be new to me, but at least here, it feels like voices still matter. I know you guys already know this, but I want to throw it out there: You all are right!

Yeah man the apps are tight and I still get the most important news. The community is the kinda weirdos I like - Linux nerds, oss purists, cutting edge. I haven't missed reddit in the last ~year of lemmy

Welcome. The biggest difference for me after moving is trying to contribute. Find something you like and share it don't worry to much about what community it goes it. We have less people so sharing and commenting is more important here.

If you want you find communities (subreddits) then you can use https://lemmyverse.net

Block people you don't like because they will drive you insane if you let then.

Another cool thing about Lemmy is that we have a public modlog so you can see what comments are being removed and why. Very useful when you see someone whining about a post being removed unfairly since you can checkout the post and see for yourself.

As of 10:00am Pacific you posted 27 times in your first 13 hours? Is this what a bot or paid agent looks like?

It certainly is very familiar behavior.

We don’t agree politically, but that’s beside the point. Welcome! Congrats on escaping reddit, and I hope you enjoy Lemmy!

I came here after they banned 3rd party apps, never looked back!

[–] [email protected] 12 points 16 hours ago

That's exactly it. It's a living, vibrant community. Even if a post might be days old, there's still a fair chance that your late comment will be read, upvoted and even responded to.
