I can recommend Dead Space and Little Nightmares. Eternal Darkness is another gem, but you'd have to play it on an emulator unless you have a GameCube.

I loved Eternal Darkness when I was a kid, no other horror game has spooked my as much as this one when

it displayed the "you successfully deleted all of your saved games" bait while on low sanity.

I also recall it would make it look like it crashed sometimes :)
Yeah it did! That's not the kind of horror you would expect, but it was genuinely terrifying in its own way hahaha
it really was
I watched Alien Romulus recently. It was my first Alien movie. I kept thinking that this is pretty much a less good version of Dead Space.
Dead Space was really well done, and the story was surprisingly good especially if you read all the notes listened through the logs.
Foreshadowed Altman leading a destructive cult by more than a decade
lol
I feel like this was personally designed to trigger me. You played Condemned and don't remember it? And FNAF is S tier horror? Edit: OMFG I just noticed RE 6 as an A... I'm not judging, I just wonder what we experienced differently.
FnaF is my favorite horror game if we count only 1-SL and ignore every kid friendly cash grab that came after it.
RE 6 takes place in my country and I like me some mindless apocalyptic zombie action so it has a special place for me, also giant mutant T-Rex is a bonus.
I wouldn't call FEAR and FEAR 2 horror tbh they are really unimpressive in that section, I'd be more of an action game (very good at that)
This is a world I'm unfamiliar with. Are there any good horror games that replicate the feeling of old-school gothic novels? Sort of more character and mystery-driven than survival/action? More soaking in dread and melancholy than shock and gore? I don't hate the latter things so much as prefer them to be well-set-up by a slow burn if they're going to be there.
RE Village is your best bet.
Would Omori count as horror?
Yeah definitely, although perhaps it could be more accurately described as a "terror game" rather a horror game. That part with the mirror...now that got me.
The part with the mirror makes me think if at least 4 different things.
SSS+ Tier;
Pathologic 1 + 2
Absolute vibes, so good.
SS+
Project Zomboid, SH2 remake, Paratopic
S+
Cruelty squad, world of horror, cry of fear
All that springs to mind rn.
Signalis. It's gas become one of my favourite games, maybe THE favourite game. It's beautiful and heartbreaking.
i have to say, STASIS 2: Bone Totem is disgusting and horrifying and would probably be somewhere in A. check it out if you like those russian/slavic bleak horror games
Damn Dolls, the only example of a good bad horror video game afaik
