On New Years Eve and Day, we eat pork to "root forward" into the new year - usually a pork butt roast and hot dogs with sauerkraut. We also put our change jars outside on the porch overnight to bring money into the house in the new year.

I think these traditions are specifically Pennsylvania Dutch.

In our area we have a town center that gets a lot of nice decorations. Every year they have a big lighting ceremony followed by music food and drinks with some gifts and games for the kids.
