My current plan is to use arkenfox user.js and Fennec. However, I'm concerned about relying on F-droid since they tend to get behind on security updates.

Is there a recommended Mull alternative? If not, is there a better place to get Fennec?

In case anyone is curious as to why, here's a direct quote from them in Fairphone forum:

As mentioned, it is the 10 year anniversary. That is a long time and I need to move onto other projects in life.

They also have this for those looking to replace Mull: https://divestos.org/pages/browsers

fuck is it being discontibued?

Where did you see it was being discontinued? I don't see anything on their website. And you can install the IzzyOnDroid repo, it has faster updates for many things. https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/

At least the developer of DivestOS announced the end of DivestOS: https://www.divestos.org/pages/news#end
The Mull browser belongs to that project or at least originates from it.

Thanks for that.

Where did you read it's being discontinued?

Edit, found another post mentioning it

Good thing I don't have a million bookmarks on my current phone using Mull. Definitely gonna end up switching over to Fennec and hardening it.

Edit:

I am either dumb or I need root for arkenfox, so looks like I might be changing things in the about:config manually. Joy.

My current plan is to mount my phones root Dir offline via twrp

You can use obtanium to pull the latest build from gitlab directly

[–] rumba 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They claim that they're removing the support for it from the server as well.

I assume you are talking about mull? My comment was for op's comment on f droid being slow in updates. I personally use fennec from f droid as I believe them to be another eyes reviewing the code when I can't but I do use obtanium for things that are not on f droid or need a quick update of something.

Ahh yes, mull.

I'll consider it

if anyone knows how to edit the 3 dot menu on any android firefox based privacy focused browser please tell

edit: added "privacy focused" so @[email protected] could know that I'm looking for a mull alternative

[–] [email protected] 0 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

you should probably make a post in a firefox community, not an unrelated comment in a privacy community

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

i am asking about a mull alternative that has the feature I've mentioned, how is it unrelated?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

the post is asking for mull alternatives. mull is a privacy-focused android firefox fork.

you asked about a way to customize a menu in any android firefox-based browser. that is not related to privacy, since there are browsers based on firefox that aren't focused on privacy. that is not related to alternatives of firefox, since you specifically asked for a way to customize something in any firefox-based browser for android. that is absolutely not related to privacy-focused forks of firefox, which is what the original post was all about.

thus, i suggest you ask for what you want by creating a post in a firefox-related community instead of a privacy-related one.

edit: forgot to say this: if i'm missing something, please tell.

I'm asking for a firefox fork in the comments of a privacy related community. Do you want me to make a venn diagram to show what I mean? Do the two words "privacy focused" mean so much to you that if I don't include them you cannot comprehend that I might be asking suggestions for a "privacy focused" browser?

if anyone knows how to edit the 3 dot menu on any android firefox based privacy focused browser please tell

from that, i understand that what you want is a way to edit the menu in any firefox-based browser. where in that do you ask for a fork of firefox?

did you mean to say something like "does anyone know a fork that has an editable 3 dot menu?" or something similar?

if that's it, it's a better idea to go in a firefox community and ask for that there in a post, since more people are going to see it in a post than in a comment.

Perhaps Iceraven?

Fennec is likely the next best, although it lacks the Arkenfox hardening. Obtainium is a great app to get builds of Fennec directly.

If you're on GrapheneOS, there's Vanadium. Using a filtering VPN atop it can help reduce ads beyond what Vanadium can already block natively (the devs have integrated some lists that uBlock starts with, such as Easy List). This is the best option lieu of add-on like uBlock, which aren't supported.

[–] possiblylinux127 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm going to apply Akenfox to Fennec.

I don't like Obtainium since it is a separate app but that might be my only other option.

I'm not on Graphene OS so that's not an option. Also you don't need Graphene OS do do network filtering.
