do you start off by having some intermediate knowledge of a language before you start using music/videos to learn and then write down any new terms? what is your process?

I am trying to use videos to learn cantonese but there is a lot I am struggling to understand.

IMHO, you should have at least a basic knowledge to start with videos. I.e. know some basic grammar and know some hundred most frequent words. Then start with videos targeted to learners or for children.

cantonese has different writing and speaking words so i will try to find these words first
