Because I saw other instances calling for defedarating this one. Naturally, I wanted to join any instance that leftist censorious cucks want to defederate from.

Same, whenever I see orange man bad, i immidately want to leave the place, too much political correct bullshit and no freedom of speech.

I'm not even American, i just don't give a shit about fake woke points of view

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because another instance I was on threw a fit that this one allowed free speech

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What did they throw a fit about?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

"everyone who disagrees is a nazi and exploding heads hasn't banned them all"

I went looking for an instance that wasn’t a left wing echo chamber after a mod on one of the big instances started getting power-crazy in a thread about the affirmative action SCOTUS ruling.

Content here is a little further right than I’m usually looking for, but I don’t have to tiptoe around on eggshells fearing a ban, and that’s what matters.

I like the idea of Lemmy, but I don't like how a lot of the instances will defederate from others because one instance might have different views or political makeup - esp towards those who lean on the right; so to find out if I could find an instance that was more open to free speech and exchanges of ideas I went out to see if there was one which had a the_donald community that all the other instances don't seem to allow -- and I will say, that particular community is not even of any interest to me as I'm not a Trump supporter, nor from America, nor am I right leaning either in terms of my political views, but I like the idea of speech and ideas not being censored. So if this particular one will allow the one that seems to always get censored on the others, then that is a good sign to me that overall here speech and thoughts will not be censored -- hence why I joined.

We are glad you joined.

I joined Lemmy.world during the Reddit blackout because it was the largest instance. I noticed the site leaned heavily to the left but this is to be expected since Reddit does too. I blocked all of the political communities since I just wanted to read about technology and other non political things like I do on Reddit, since the rest of that site is also a liberal cesspool.

I came to Lemmy.world one day to see a post about a Nazi instance and went to the post to figure out what the URL was. I would never join an actual Nazi site but in 2023 the left calls anyone that disagrees with them a Nazi. I had hoped Lemmy would be like the earlier days of Reddit where things weren't so politically correct, but I shouldn't have been surprised that Reddit refugees would want a Reddit like experience with heavy moderation and down votes for anyone who dares to disagree with the left wing hivemind.

Unfortunately whenever the left bans all the right wingers from their sites, it just makes their sites more extreme left. The people they ban just go and create their own websites that become even more extreme right than what their old communities were like. This seems to be the trend over the last several years and it causes political discussion sites to become extremist circlejerks. I'd love to find an instance that allows more reasonable debate and isn't heavily moderated like Reddit. So far this instance has potential.

After I was labeled as a fascist and banned by the admin of lemm.ee simply for expressing a few non-marxist opinions I sought an instance without a Marxist admin.

Gay shit, that’s what happened

this could be tl;dr so the short of it is I believe in everyone's right to live as they want as long as they aren't hurting others, and on many of the other instances what defines hurting others get broader every day bordering on ridiculous.

I used to be on reddit, like wayyyy back. I left because of the increasingly "progressive" tone of most of the sub-reddits. Let me be 100% clear I am left of centre and an atheist, but I have long since learned the live and let live credo, which reddit seemed to be either forgetting or intentionally ignoring. I do not think that wanting a collective good is antithetical to allowing people to live as they want, because I came to the understanding that the "correct politics" of today is "problematic" tomorrow. After the Reddit rebellion of '23 I said it was only a matter of time before it happened to that cesspool of scum and villainy, (refering to the money grubbing management) and I heard about Lemmy. I thought great I'll check it out. What I found is more of the same "progressive" attitude. The obtuse nature on instances like Lemmy.world, their utter conviction that any ideas that contradict their own are bigotry, their ignorance that attitudes change with time, and their utter disbelief that their morals aren't universal and people in the future might regard their ideas as "problematic" made Exploding Heads all the more attractive. If you refuse to defend other peoples right to have an opinion, and actively believe in censoring others you aren't promoting the public good, you are promoting the interests of the powerful. I may disagree with some of opinions on here but I am self aware enough to realize I am not all knowing and that attitudes change with time, and I situationaly aware enough to realize that being exposed to opinions you don't agree with is the only way to expose and rectify my own biases.

Love this

Honestly, saw everyone delisting this instance and figure this was the place to be. If other are so worried about what people say on hear it's probably the place that speaks the truth. And allows for open discussion.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Exact same reason why I joined as well.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Because EH is the only instance where I don't have to be a kiss ass to the left to post content or even be here in general.

I heard about lemmy from r/redditalternatives and was so excited about it. But then I started getting banned. I was like? What the fuck is even the point then? I thought this was an alternative

After WB shut down, wigglehard said everyone was moving here. I already had an account here, but the traffic picked up when the shift happened.

Truth be told, when I joined WB I figured they we're going to be uptight like the other instances so I was going to just troll like a mother fucker.

But everyone was genuinely really cool and nice. So I didn't feel right about don't that anymore

I personally feel like conservative instances are the most laid back. I know there are still some rules, but I didn't have read an extensive dictionary or have to take an etiquette class required like the other ones.

Every one just needs to chill the fuck out.

Hey gang, it really warmed my heart to read these answers.

I am glad you all like it here. It is your participation that makes all the difference.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

i'm here because the commie instances hate it

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

the commies here are quite pleasant to talk to

I got downvoted into oblivion for bringing demographics & geography into a discussion about mass transportation. I'm truly tired of trying to enlighten people that get their feelings hurt by facts. You know, those toxic types who prefer silencing you over debating you because they can't defend their ideas.

So I'm here, hoping for real discussions and lively debate about real topics.

I like to eat my own waste.

I too am a man of culture that enjoys psilocybin flavored urine.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Alice asked me where I'd rather be. I couldn't think of an answer so I'll stay.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Apparently you can't discuss you're violent fantasies on other instances! >:(

That aside, just the truly free speech aspect of this place, although I do miss being able to interact with other instances.

Wolfballs died and everyone came here. For what ever reason, exploding heads seems to have more traffic. I don't know what the secret sauce is. The downside is that I have to tolerate more arguments made in bad faith. That really gets tiresome. The upside is that with adversity comes new opportunities as well as having awesome people here, so I choose to be positive about it.

As much as I would like to start a Catholic community on exploding heads, I don't have the time or energy to do it correctly. I would rather support someone else in that effort.

All in all this place seems like it is shaping up nicely. At first it was a home out of necessity, now it is becoming a place where I'd like to stay.

I'd like to think that the reason for success of EH is luck. Since wolfballs died reddit "died" and the consequences of Musk taking over twitter are present. Also lemmy.ml didn't defederate us for very long time

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

That makes sense. MOB did a fine job and I had no qualms with him at all.

This story goes to the winter of 2021, when I was looking for more privacy respecting reddit alternative. This day I stumbled upon a post on r/redditalternatives where it shouted out lemmy. I joined lemmy.ml at first and stayed there for couple of months. In the first months of 2022 there was a small drama surrounding the instance wolfballs.com. This instance was blocked for the "spreading misinformation and bigotry". You know the usual stuff. This picked my interest and I joined it. Fast forward a year and a half later the admin of wolfballs.com @[email protected] decided to stop the site. I would assume that he was bullied into doing it since it was very sudden. The admin of EH said that he would have no problems if we migrate to this instance. And here we are.
