Source: comment thread in r/interestingasfuck stating that it has not become a 'porn sub'. It only for nsfw because they also do malicious compliance.

The list of maliciously compliant subs that reopened is inspiring

  • /nofans (previously a nsfw sub) now dedicated to air cooled PC
  • /shitposting now banning all posts with the letter “k”
  • /horny (obvious what this was) is now a Christian Minecraft server

Ahhhh, democracy.

  • /memes is only allowing memes that mention “landed,” “gentry,” or “medieval.”
  • /iOS seems to be NSFW shitposts
[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Amazing. You love to see it

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

r/art is only allowing posts of John Oliver “looking artsy” r/WellThatSucks is only posts of vacuum cleaners now

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

as fun as all this is, it's counterproductive.

Right now it's only giving spez a lot of extra traffic from people wanting to be creative and people wanting to see the shit storm. If people keep enjoying literal subs with shit posts, he doesn't care as long as he gets traffic and users before the IPO

I say it's super productive. People go to Reddit because others have already done the work to vote the best content for consumption. For majority of Reddit users who just passively consume info (and maybe vote), seeing John instead of cats will significantly reduce their interest in Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I'm really glad I can come here for cats.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Agreed that it’s probably not productive for reducing traffic. That being said, I think the novelty will wear off.

Also, this whole situation is just amplifying the protest’s message (landed gentry lol). His 180° decision to threaten the removal of protesting mods just boosts my favorite internet phenomenon - the Streisand effect!

Plus, it may hurt the public offerings - Investors don't like uncertainty, and seeing that the users may at any point completely alter a subreddit could make them skittish

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

But if the sub is NSFW there aren't any ads shown. So it's really a lot of traffic, but no income.

r/piracy is currently voting whether to return to normal or allow only pictures of John Oliver as a pirate

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

That's Captain John Oliver!

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago

Honestly this is trolling Reddit and i love it, destroy the point of the sub, go absolutely literal. And I'm here for it!

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

I am loving these so much

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

Rexit has provided us with a plethora of unexpected hilarity, and I am here for it.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What's funnier are the people going "😭😭 muh content". Imagine being that addicted to Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I mean... I am that addicted to Reddit.

But Lemmy is my methodone

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

the few communities I was most active in are not even here, and I haven't missed them. The content is great, but I'm more community driven tbh, and this platform has been more engaging overall. I think that will be a factor in who chooses to stay, and hopefully for the better.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Doesn't all this activity help reddit though?

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

In the short term, people will come by to lollygag. In the long term, there's only so much John Oliver anyone wants to see in a day, so traffic to those subs will likely fall.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

there's only so much John Oliver anyone wants to see in a day

That limit is not known to science.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Where is my John Oliver lemmy space. I need more.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I hope the bots will keep the sub alive. :)

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

It temporarily boosts activity, but that's useless activity. It's not going to help Reddit in the long run, and in fact will diminish Reddit's value if it goes on long enough.

If I wasn't already over reddit, seeing these protests would have honestly probably lead to me check out the other websites. People want to go where the entertainment is.

Seriously, these protest posts are top-tier internet shenanigans. This is the type of internet that I know and love. These types of shenanigans are what drew me to the internet so much in the first place.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

My only hope this that this goes hand in hand with deleting posts prior to this. Leaving them up leaves them on Google and people can still interact with them.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

That's the most fkd up thing about this whole thing. It's more authoritarian than I am comfortable with. And an obvious f u, scumbag shit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I have seen reports that Reddit un-deletes deleted posts after the user has been deleted. Can't win.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Well well well… and they said my “Interest In Gas Fuck” would never be useful!!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

r/piracy was forced to reopen and thier mods say reddit gave them an endorsement for digital piracy hahaha & https://infosec.exchange/@nazgul/110567606843018903
