I’ve been a cinephile for a while now, I have tons of movies on my watchlist, and they are all very different in their own way. I’m basically asking: what movies would yall be interested to hear about? Only movies I refuse to review are most RomComs, (few exceptions) tiny-budget movies that are tough to find, (I don’t doubt some of those are great films, I just don’t wanna search thru 30 websites of pure malware to find a 1hr 27 min 70s Dutch Crime Thriller) history documentaries (I would consider those educational films rather than cinema to be reviewed) and maybe stuff that’s too overtly grotesque (I ain’t watching Saw movies or anything similar, all other horror is still on the table). Besides that, I would love to watch basically any film people are interested in, Old Soviet films, Cringe-inducing Right-wing movies, Liberal Utopias, hell, even classic films that could really use a lefty perspective on it like Forrest Gump or Full Metal Jacket. Any movie suggestions are not only welcome but appreciated. Thanks in advance everybody, I look forward to watching these movies and subsequently reviewing them for you all to read.

That's your loss because De Lift, a Dutch movie from the 70's about a sentient, homicidal elevator, is amazing.

Do you have letterboxd? I just wrote a long piece for JFK. Fantastic movie. You csn find it here: My ★★★★ review of JFK on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/5dmCm1

I saw JFK a while ago LITERALLY just because Hulu’s movie description cut off too early because of how long the description was and it said something about “the secret service and top officials investigate John F Kennedy’s Ass…” or something like that and I thought it was so fucking funny that I had to watch it. I barely remember it, but I’d be interested in reading a review. I’ve never personally used Letterbox but EVERY cinephile I meet seems to have an account, I might as well. And I don’t doubt that the Dutch elevator movie is good, but I don’t want a virus. Jokes aside, if you have a decent website for finding obscure films, I would be eternally grateful.

Mubi might be good for you? It streams movies from around the world that are curated. I see movies on there that I do not see anywhere else.

Ooh, thank you, I’d love to see what they have to offer

I would love to hear your opinion on both these films, here are links to the full movies

A pretext, they are both made by communists.

Ooooh, I would really like to read a review of Forest Gump with a leftist perspective!

It used to be a favorite of mine as an early teen (I was vaguely conservative smh) and looking back, the movie has a lot of flaws and bad messages. I hear the book is way more nuanced and interesting, but that’s another story

I feel you on the searching for an obscure movie on 30 sites with malware issue. I tried to watch Gangs of Wasseypur a while back and could find a stream for the first part but finding the second part was impossible. I could find some streams but they didn't have english subtitles which is a problem since I don't know Hindi. I could find a stream only by making an account on a website I wasn't sure was sketchy.

Psychological and mystery movies. I stopped watching movies like 2 years ago due to burnout but this month i paid netflix and ive been consuming a lot of movies.

The past week ive been through the strays (pretty bad imo), manderley (also bad), talented mr ripley (this one is weirdly awesome), hypnotic (comically bad, couldnt finish). Is there something good on this genre that ive missed? Ive watched all the classics pretty much, Gone Girl perfectly sums up what i love from the genre.
