Before you tell me to touch grass, grass is kinda illegal here in the US (if you know what I mean by "grass" 😉).

It’s a good thing Lemmy is small, because you still run out of content faster. Less time staring at your phone is usually still a good thing.

[–] [email protected] 105 points 1 year ago (5 children)

I open Lemmy, "oh still the same top posts from 6 hours ago", goes back to doing whatever I was doing

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I sort by All/Hot, and if that's not enough, I turn on All/New to get maximum "High" on Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Gotta sort by hot so you don't miss out on those 3 year old posts with like one comment from someone 6 months ago confused about why the article is so out of date.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

xD

the reason it's hot is because someone forgot to turn off the stove from months ago

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

I accidentally sorted by old once, saw a bunch of "testing" posts, it was kinda amusing.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

That's cause those posts have been boosted, or so I hear.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Rare Lemmy L

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Yeah but then I wonder if maybe there's so new good comments or some memes posted IN the comments that I might have missed. If you really have a problem you can have a problem on Lemmy too.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Someone taught me the "hide read" workflow and now it's harder for me to run out of content. Double edged sword though.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What if I'm not doing anything else? 🥹

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Then you jack off

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Back when I started with Reddit I remember sorting by new and thinking, jeez why would anyone sift through all this crap... Cut to me exclusively sorting by new all the time because I looked at ev.ry.thing. So yeah, this is nice. Though in the future it may be just as full. Cross that bridge when we come to it I guess.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Use this opportunity to form a healthier relationship with social media

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A good suggestion. I'm already trying to post less, comment less, and just focus on making better, more frequently positive contributions.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Kudos to you for that!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah I was surprised to see how fast I read the entirety of the greentext community here… but that’s a good thing, makes me realize it’s an addiction and forces me to stop

well at least Lemmy seems to be less toxic

[–] [email protected] 43 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I have a PhD in online arguments, and I’ve been involved in numerous anonymous arguments with internet strangers, and I have won over 300 arguments online.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Talk dirty to me, daddy.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

What in Davy Jones’ locker did ye just bark at me, ye scurvy bilgerat? I’ll have ye know I be the meanest cutthroat on the seven seas, and I’ve led numerous raids on fishing villages, and looted over 300 ships. I be trained in hit-and-run pillaging and be the deadliest with a pistol of all the captains on the high seas. Ye be nothing to me but another source o’ swag. I’ll have yer guts for garters and keel haul ye like never been done before, hear me true. You think ye can hide behind your newfangled computing device? Think twice on that, scallywag. As we parley I be contacting my secret network o’ pirates across the sea and yer port is being tracked right now so ye better prepare for the typhoon, weevil. The kind o’ monsoon that’ll wipe ye off the map. You’re sharkbait, fool. I can sail anywhere, in any waters, and can kill ye in o’er seven hundred ways, and that be just with me hook and fist. Not only do I be top o’ the line with a cutlass, but I have an entire pirate fleet at my beck and call and I’ll damned sure use it all to wipe yer arse off o’ the world, ye dog. If only ye had had the foresight to know what devilish wrath your jibe was about to incur, ye might have belayed the comment. But ye couldn’t, ye didn’t, and now ye’ll pay the ultimate toll, you buffoon. I’ll shit fury all over ye and ye’ll drown in the depths o’ it. You’re fish food now.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Newfangled computing device, oh man, this is just priceless 🤣🤣🤣.

I'll get to touch that sticky, sticky grass soon, my state legalized this year. Minnesota 23 in '23!

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Woot woot fellow Minnesotan!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Hello fellow Minnesotans!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Any of yall got that sweet sweet minnesota train gif?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't think I'm familiar with that, but I'd like to be.

I mean, it does feel like you’ve stepped back from the edge a bit. Like you’ve knocked off the black tar heroin in favor of crack.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Remember kids: it's completely acceptable to replace one addiction with another.

Maybe you'll find a new hobby.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Grass may be illegal, but that doesn’t stop me from taking massive rips before commenting

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

I have been living in the Pacific Northwest bubble for long enough that I forgot weed isn’t legal in a lot of places in the US. Literally raised an eyebrow while reading the subtext before remembering

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Hey man, that's like,

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Different drug, same addiction haha

Though for what it's worth, I do find it easier to pull myself off of Kbin than I did Reddit

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I like that kbin and Lemmy aren't going to have an entire team of people doing continuous A/B testing to find what drives the most engagement.

Much less chance of this ending up as a dopamine slot machine.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Thankfully Lemmy isn't really good, and has rather limited amount of functionalities and content comparing to Reddit so I'd say I'm good and not addicted anymore 😉

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

I spend less time on Lemmy than I did on Reddit. I think I just found other things to do.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Well, lemmy feelsmore like a home than Reddit.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Not to speak for everyone, but those of us in parts of the country where grass is not illegal really appreciate that grass is not illegal. If we can't have meaningful change in other areas, at least we can soften the blow.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Lemme fix that for you

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I'm not addicted to anything other than dodging mu uncomfortable feelings.

Which I am super addicted to so I end up on lemmy alot!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Recreational is completely legal in NJ. To the point where employers cannot make a decision to hire or fire based on your cannabis use unless they can provide hard evidence that you were using on the job.
You just can't cross state lines with any amount.

Mission accomplished

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

it feels much more fresh and spacious

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Im not there yet. Help me get addicted to Lemmy, please.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

the memes on Lemmy are so good that I feel like I haven't seen good relevant simple memes in like a decade.
