Hey everybody! My wife and I have recently been playing Destiny 2. It's excellent imo and both of us are having tons of fun, except for one little detail...

We need a third person!

We both like to take our time with levels, enjoy the scenery, role-playing our characters... and with most of the level thingies (strikes, vanguard) its required that we have another player with us.

Sometimes that goes well, but more often than not we end up with someone who just rushes through. Totally kills the whole point of why we play!

Is there anyone out there interested in playing with us? Or have advice for finding others besides the fireteam finder thingy? That hasn't really worked so far.

I hope this doesn't violate any rules for posting on this instance!

Thanks everyone!

Edit: fixed the title so people would stop thinking I'm asking for a threesome

Married couple looks for third person to spice up their...gaming life.

Yeah, when I only skimmed over the title I was thinking, whoa, are we doing this on Lemmy? Okay, nice!

[–] [email protected] 12 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think it would be the wrong instance for that... maybe hardxxxcore gamers?

Dude, at first glance, your title makes it sound like you guys are tryna find someone for a threesome. Probably my fault since I'm subbed to some porn communities.

I was so surprised to see a few comments like this! Just because my wife and I want a third person to do something with us... I thought I was a total perv but my eyes have been opened to the truth lol

Your best bet for this type of thing would probably be a discord channel. That's usually where you'll find gamer meetups and such. I wish you luck!

This was always my main issue back when I played Destiny 1. Pub groups take a lot of the fun out strikes and nightfalls. I'd imagine most people you're queueing with are just farming things from stuff they've already run a bunch of times which is why they're rushing through.

I never ended up finding a casuals clan that I meshed well with, but like other folks have said I think your best bet is going to be finding a good clan rather than any one single person. Your mileage will probably vary for this though, especially since it sounds like you're looking for a 3rd who's also new to the game. Including your general ages, time zone, and which platform you play on will also help you get better results.

I swore off Bungie games in general after they started the trend of sunsetting already paid DLC content in the first game, but I hope you find someone and have fun! Good luck!

I used to change the clock on my ps4 so I could do strikes in peace without being forced into matchmaking. I'm assuming that doesn't still work though.

I'm more of a 'go with the flow' type of person so I'd just take the L with a bad group and hope I didn't get them again, but it definitely made farming some exotics very frustrating. I genuinely couldn't tell you if that trick still works in D2.

I didn't have any particular problem with anyone. I just, like OP, prefer a patient approach over pure run and gun. I almost never used anything but my high impact scout and my smoke bomb melee to escape if I got too crowded.

I also stopped when they started taking away shit I paid for to be replaced with shoveled shit on a content treadmill. The quality was terrible.

What part of the world are you two in? Do you like doing hard content?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Hard content is fun, but we have been doing a bit of everything. Tried the raids and dungeons but since it is just the 2 of us we couldn't make it past certain points. I would totally be up for whatever, but I also would like to play with someone that is more focused on role playing the characters ("ok guardians! Here we go!") And enjoys stopping to look around at the scenery and are our time through the levels. Really immerse ourselves in the game if that makes sense

I have a hug emote and a large collection of screenshots of me hugging fellow guardians, does that count as rp enough?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Haha yes totally

I played D2 with a good guild for a while, and it was quite a different game than playing solo. They often wanted another player to go through things, and it was pretty easy to pick up a third player if 2 of us wanted to do things. I could see an easy-going guild being a good place to pick up a third player when that wants to explore like you do, without the same person always having to want to play when you do.

I left the guild when some of the shine of D2 fell off after the last expansion, and I realized I was letting it run my life. They even offered to let me stay, but I knew that'd be bad for taking control back.

Anyhow, try to find an active, but casual guild.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Thank you! When you say guild, are you talking about the clans in D2? Or some other thing?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

Ah, yeah. Clan. I'm used to playing fantasy MMOs with "guilds" instead, and still call them that.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

Sounds fun! I actually wanted to start playing this week when epic gave it for free, and I'd like to try and play with you. Unfortunately I don't have much time to plau and I would not be able to join more often than not.

Good luck with your research though!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

What time zone are y'all in, and what hours do you typically play?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

EST, and usually between 5-8pm. If you want I'll private message you my Bungie account!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

How many hours plus or minus GMT is EST?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

EST is UTC-5:00. GMT is usually (always?) UTC.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I said GMT because I forgot the other acronym, I remembered something like ITC but that looked wrong

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

I believe the name UTC is a compromise between the English Coordinated Universal Time and the French Temps Universel Coordonne. As in all the best compromises, no one got what they wanted.

ITC is isothermal titration calorimetry.

Try Warframe someday, it's FAR better.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Depends on what the players are after.

I prefer warframe due to being able to actively work towards goals in a visually progressing way, but can see the appeal of a haloesque contol scheme fps with randomized loot.

Both are grindy in different ways, and warframe doesn't quite know how to introduce new content without dumping or a few more currencies and yet another group that has a reputation system to be plunked into.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I tried Warframe years ago, but I didn't really get into it. I did the same with Destiny 2 tho so maybe now I'll enjoy it more. So thanks for the recommendation! For now tho I'm gonna stick to D2 since I'm insanely addicted to it

[–] therealjcdenton 2 points 11 months ago

Destiny 2 is a money sucker, it's something like $300 barrier to entry. Play Warframe or Final Fantasy XIV, much better

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I just played like the introduction of Destiny 1 and it never got too much of my attention lol.

Can anyone enjoy Destiny 2 without knowing anything about it?

I think I have the game for free.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Not especially.

A few years back, in November 2020, Bungie decided to vault all of the DLC before their most recent at the time (Shadowkeep); this was to both keep the game fresh and without cheesy weapons and whatnot, as well as to keep the game size lower. The thing is, those campaigns and raids that they vaulted? Those were the only Free-to-play aspects aside from the basic game modes at the time.

What I'm getting at here though is that because they got rid of those experiences, a lot of the story elements that were previously established with those campaigns were gone. Now the only way to experience them is to: a) Look at the in-game Timeline b) read the lore books in their tab, or c) watch YouTube for a good 2 hours at least to figure out what the hell the Fallen are, why the Witness is our Big Bad, and why Taniks always comes back.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I played 1 and enjoyed it but thought it was a bit lacking. I love sci-fi games so I'm easy to please eith this stuff tho.

You don't have to play the first game, the second one doesn't really reference anything specific to the first (that I'm aware of anyways, it's been years since I played it!)

The game seems simple enough at first, but when you get into it, it is actually impressively complex. Great story, great action, lots of places to explore. It has a little bit of everything.

The basic game is free so if you want to try playing it with us you are more than welcome! Let me know if you do and I'll private message you my username so we can be Destiny friends!

I'd love to play Destiny 2, but Bungie goes pretty hard against linux gaming, sadly. And I definitely won't return to windows just because of this.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

That is sad. Damn you Bungie!
