If you watch the interview with the people who made the cybertruck it is clear Elon was like "you know what would be cool" and then gave them ~90 days to make a working prototype. Honestly it could be cool if it didn't look like a shitty polygonal car from a PS2 game
PS2 might be pushing it. PS1, absolutely. Angles everywhere.
Thought about PS1, but wasn't sure. Guess that makes more sense, but the original Halo warthog is pretty angular so i was thinking something like that

Unpopular opinion: I think it's great that a car exists that wasn't designed by committee and says "fuck it" to sensible design principles. It'll be a commercial failure, but a collector's item in 30 years.
I would agree with you if it wasn't a design that ignored safety regulations. Current design is not even road legal in the EU due to steel panel thickness being against the maximum allowed limit.
I see people mention this a lot but I'm not sure if Tesla as a company really cares. Pickup trucks are not huge sellers outside of North America from my understanding.
And that's just pickups in general, the Cybertruck is pretty big. I'd imagine a majority of the sales would be for smaller pickups.
I think you could have both a unique looking car, and one that is somewhat sensibly designed.
So many sacrifices of the cyber truck are done just to be different. Like the $100 windshield wiper that spans the entire windshield. That's just bad design for the sake of uniqueness.
I own a Tesla and this is one of my biggest gripes: dumb shit just to be different. Not good, just different
Same, even the stupid door handles are like on the 3 and Y. If I'm picking someone up who's never been in my car before I often open the door for them because it's exhausting to keep explaining it to them.
Don't forget to tell them it's a button to open it from the inside, not the handle for emergency exits!
The more I learn about Tesla's vehicles in real life, the more I think they must be designed as a joke. The inside parts literally fall off, the windshield wipers cost $100, the handles won't work if a button breaks, the full self-driving isn't as good at recognizing obstacles as my 2017 Subaru is, and I don't even remember what else.

This isn't quite right, there's a button to open the door (one of like nine buttons in the entire car) but there's is also a lever you can pull in case of emergencies.... Like if the car's electrical system fails.
Everything else is true.
There also is no physical way to open the glove box, you have to use a voice command or dig through the settings on the built-in tablet.
There also is no physical way to set the wiper speed, that's also done through the tablet or voice command. There's a button to do a single wipe, or clean the window if you hold it down, but no way to keep the wipers on without taking your eyes off the road.
Don't even get me started on how absolutely stupid it is that you have to remove two inner body panels to change the cabin air filter.
There's so many of these types of things, it's ridiculous. The sad part is that it could have been a pretty nice car if someone on the design team had just an ounce of common sense.

I actually kinda like my model 3 quite a bit, but I got it used for an absolute steal of a deal. I would never pay full price for a new one or even recommend someone to buy one themselves. If you're into Teslas, you don't need someone to recommend them to you.
It is so close to being a really good car. It's fun to drive, pretty comfortable, lots of head and leg room and it's really efficient in city traffic.
It feels like a team of mechanical engineers were cut midway through the design process and a team of software engineers finished the job.
It's just so freaking quirky for no reason.
Also seems like it would be a bitch for deaf/mute people.

The Tesla models are S, 3, X, Y, and cyber truck. Tesla models 3 and Y are comparable to the BMW i4 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E

Tbh they are not the first car manufacturer to do that. Think Citroen did it about 40+ years ago.
Thats why I always have a soft spot for french cars, everyone else is just following the germans.
Just to play devil's advocate here, that also means that you'd be wasting astronomical amounts of time and money to develop something the market doesn't want. It doesn't make much business/financial sense to sink so much into a failed project but since musk came up with it we have to look at it.
