I didn't realize these were really fancy watches. It looks cool why would it be cringe?

Buy what you like and enjoy what makes you happy.

Yo the GA-2100 is no fucking joke. Not only is the watch sick as hell but it's totally customizable. Look up Cassioak and you'll see what I mean. I've already ripped out a bunch of pieces of mine and swapped it for new parts.

The most cringe thing about it is worrying about being cringe.

Get a baby g

At the end of the day one person's cringe is another person's cool. There's an impulse to try to avoid being seen as cringe by anybody and that can only lead to being layered in an unsatisfying ironic detachment. That's the only way to avoid ever being cringe: avoid being genuine. Understand that this watch is definitely not for everybody, but nothing is. If it doesn't put off the people you actually respect, who cares?

That's the only way to avoid ever being cringe: avoid being genuine.

I disagree so heavily and not even just from an ideological standpoint or whatever. I mean sure, it's really depending on your social bubble but most everyone I hang with would think somebody only doing things ironically is an exasperating hack but some dude just straight up rocking the g-shock / canadian tuxedo / mullet combo or whatever? Like putting their whole pussy into it? Cheers all around, I'd buy that guy a beer

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Oh I'd absolutely prefer somebody going all in something like that to the exasperating hack. My point is that if your goal is to avoid getting "owned" or whatever you want to call it, the only way to do that is to never actually enjoy something. I guess I'm trying to get across that I think a lot of the cringe discourse is less about what people think is embarrassing and more about avoiding ever feeling embarrassed, which is simply not a realistic thing unless you make yourself miserable.

Sweatshirt, cargo pants, racers, casio.

Looking normal ftw.

I saw Jet Tila wearing that exact G-Shock on some Food Network thing and it looked fine. IDK if I'd get the red one for myself, but I've come close to buying one of the earth tone ones they had a while ago.

I like my cheap classic square G-Shock, but I usually wear a Vostok lol.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Yes, but so is worrying about whether you're cringe or not

I realized that if i'm wearing a suit, i might as well have a watch. Now i have 4 soviet watches that look slick as hell whenever i have to wear formal attire.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Where do I buy Soviet watch

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

I've only bought one off of ebay, but it looks like they're much pricier than they were a decade ago. I'd check there, and check the reputation of the sellers. The others were gifts i got from friends who visited eastern europe over the past few years that they got from second hand shops, so can't really help from that angle.

Every consumerist action is cringe by itself. This one is not the cringeist, but still.
