No no, stay.

Landslide? It looks more like tectonic upheaval.

Before pic, October 2015. @[email protected] shared an article which mentions there was a lawsuit over landslides there back in 2001.

I looked up the thing.

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WOWK) — The Target in the Merritt Creek Shopping Center in Barboursville, West Virginia is falling apart after the road behind it collapsed.

Edit: known issue, Target just thought they could beat nature unlike the last tenant.

I knew it was West Virginia.

This is not climate change, y'all. The Appalachians are an eroding mountain range. The town where my sister lives is in a constant battle to keep the roads from falling into the adjacent creek beds. It's just an absurdly difficult geography to build on.

Fun fact: The Appalachians are older than Saturn's rings

[–] [email protected] 9 points 9 months ago

Yep! Over a billion years old and a major feature on Pangaea.

Climate change can accelerate erosion.

As a civil engineer, one of the first realisations you have is that You can only temporarily keep nature back. In the long run, i.e., greater than 50 years in 90% of cases, nature always wins.

Or Rather Capitalism finally getting a return on its investment of ruining the environment.

I hope no living creatures were harmed. Other than that I see this as a positive thing.

I literally would have shit myself if I were in that part of the store when that happened.
