Yeah, I dont think so. I have not heard an argument here, just a statement. The "limits" arent real, never have been. This stuff needs to be outlawed as a whole so that "criminal" behavior can be again investigated in a way that is understandable and controllable. We dont need all powerful cops that have the best tools on their hands just to catch someone selling illegal stuff. It has also been proven time and again that the whole terrorism shtick has never been as much of a threat as it was made out to be.

Sorry, no idea what you mean. I use the phone the same way I use my computer. I'm sticking to stuff that would probably pop up if it were to get compromised, otherwise I dont bother.

The much more interesting thing this points at is the fact that conversations between people should be privileged and not usable in criminal investigations as long as not one party willfully submits it as evidence.

The mere idea of eavesdropping on people and/or using their data for other purposes than it was intended to is horrendous.

Meaning: if I call a friend or even send them a postcard and ask them for 100 kilos of cocaine, this should not be admissible in court. I dont care if organized crime is a problem. Go pose as a buyer and start rolling up the net from the bottom. Do the footwork.

Otherwise its not europol but more like eustasi. (Reference to the stasi, the former east-german „state security“ which was infamous for picking you up ar night if you as much as said you didnt love the government)

We will have to come to grips with the fact that europol (and for the germans reading this, the german state police) are still the fascism enablers they always have been.

I‘m fine with paying because I‘m starting a business. But I‘m not fine with tracking the payments so I will donate a set percentage of my profits (once I have them) to an open source group, no idea which one yet. The rest is not my problem.

Thanks! I‘m currently working with a customer who uses microsoft cloud stuff and windows. Honestly, I would have been done with my work after 20 minutes if he were on linux. Instead I‘m at 8 hrs and a full blown storage solution just because his hardware is incompatible with each other die to windows/microsoft BS.

I can not stress this enough: there are lots of issues on windows which require costly support while the issues on linux usually require a search engine or a friend with some linux experience.

The downside of postmarketOS at this point is the camera functionality. We need to get that working and we‘re golden. On the oneplus 6 I‘m working, its the only major thing that doesnt work. Otherwise the phone is pretty ready.

Its a oneplus 6 with postmarketOS.

Tangential:

I‘m running my own IT company since recently and am transitioning to exclusively using FOSS. I still have some things I need to work around like my iOS phone. It already has a linux successor but its not finished yet. Pretty promising though. My plan is to put a fixed percentage of profits to open source projects.

Hi folks, I‘m currently using the pinetime which a friend has given to me for testing.

So far I‘m very happy. Of course, the typical foss situation applies where you have to accept that freedom comes with responsibility. In this case it is early stage functionality in some cases like the heart rate monitor which is kinda spotty.

Cool features imo:

  • different watch faces
  • lights up when you raise your arm
  • hrm works mostly
  • 2048 game is fun
  • step counter seems accurate to me

But I already made a list of things I could possibly add to the firmware if I decide to buy one - likely the dev edition.

All in all, I‘m very impressed of the capabilities of a small company and its open source product.

Thats a pretty impressive list

Pretty solid advice.

One could argue though that a backup script could pull the particular container image right after doing the backup to have maximum coverage.

If someone is already that adept at scripting to rely on a script to do automatic backups, they can very well pull the new images and clean old ones.

I‘m one of those who have a backup script and still use watchtower.

Mobile version on linux phone (lemmy.giftedmc.com)
submitted 1 week ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

The phone is an oneplus6 with postmarketOS. VoxeLibre runs on minetest 5.9.0 dev, compiled from source. I played for about 30 minutes and it cost about 20% battery. It runs butter smooth and has no input lag at all. Must be one of the best mobile gaming experiences I ever had. A little optimization would be great down the line but i was surprised how good this is!

Hi folks! I'm currently trying to learn a good workflow to fork a (say) github project and work on it on my forgejo. I have made forks and PRs in the past but I fail to see how to do it in this case, at least efficiently.

I could of course fork on github and mirror the repo on my forge. That would include me putting my work on github instead of only making a PR on github. I would prefer forking directly to my forge and sending only the PR on github. On the other hand, if I delete my fork afterward, it was pretty irrelevant to begin with.

How would you approach this?

I'm experiencing some odd behavior. Lemmy communities on my server seem to have stalled (no new posts and or comments) since 2 days.

I went ahead and upgraded lemmy to 0.19.5 and postgres to the current version but to no avail so far.

.ml got banned by fail2ban but I set it on the ignore list now. any ideas where to start looking for the problems? I checked for the other big communities and they're okay it seems.

I can of course start adding logs in here but I would love to know which service or log I should start with.

Thanks for reading. Have a good one.

Edit: outgoing federation works. this post made it to ml in seconds.

Microsoft QA Contractors Say They Were Laid Off for Attempting to Unionize

I just found this community through the old one on world. good idea to move away to avoid further centralization.

Minetest/Voxelibre appreciation I'm running a whitelisted minetest server for a couple friends. it is publicly listed and peeps can ask to join if they're so inclined. I really enjoy this game although or because I own minecraft and feel like hobby devs like me should spend their time on foss projects, not microsoft.

Weird behavior Currently, I'm experiencing some interesting behavior: I'm in a jungle and due to thunderstorms, the trees caught fire. the simulation distance I suppose, the fire does not get put out by rain and slowly burns down all the things around me. Although it is raining every day.

I tested this by going near the fire while it was raining and it gets put out.

I think fire should either have finite lifespan if not placed on netherrack or at least lightning should only hit in the same distance as the simulation distance is at.

Currently trying to judge if anyone else has this problem and considering if I should look for an issue/create one.

Have a good one! :)
