@[email protected] I'm on iOS version of Firefox and it just loops back on itself to the homepage from my end.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

@[email protected] I'm still digging my heels into it right now. From the surface it seems very suspicious and financially motivated centralization of a decentralized platform, which is not good.

However, there may be some underlying bright side.

I'll have to get back to you with my full thoughts once I wrap my head around it all.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

@[email protected] maybe. However, I never hear that about AP. Only mastodon specifically and that's because mastodon not complying with most of AP standard...😳

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (7 children)

And people wonder why I don't post here that much anymore.

It's not the same as it was just a few short months ago.

Mastodon has taken over and they refuse to do anything about major issues here.

They're set to make a ton of money from this, all while their 20,000+ instance admins don't even have basic automated reporting or useful moderation tools.

You wanna know why harassment is rampant on Fediverse? Cause moderators have to have eyes on the post themselves to moderate it.

If you don't report it, it doesn't get moderated.🤦‍♂️

Ugh!😩

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

@[email protected] 1000% agree. Same for BlueSky, but that's only because the Fedi Mafia harassed Ryan to make it "opt-in"🙄

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

@[email protected] I don't see those because I don't have an actual meta account, I just browse the word "Fediverse" through threads public search, but that is quite disappointing...🤦‍♂️

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

@[email protected] good question, not sure.

I'm not one of those people.

I just know most people here do that...so yeah...🤷‍♂️

Just a tip for any new developers in the Fediverse space:

If you're making any sort of "search" function to browse Fediverse posts, make sure that it respects people's "Discoverability" settings in the Mastodon software.

This might not be the easiest thing to do.

However, given that 73% of people on Fediverse are interacting with Fedi strictly through Mastodon, you don't have much choice.

If your project gets widely known and you're disrespecting people's privacy options, you'll be highly vilified and probably Fedi cancelled.

@[email protected] thanks. Strange that it just started happening for me recently. Its quite annoying.

There's no upvotes on Mastodon so it does no good to lie for clout. It seems to be a problem there...🤦‍♂️

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

@[email protected] awesome. Sounds great.

I'll be looking out!👍

Does the feature that makes posts based on hashtags come from Mbin or just Fedi.io specifically?

It's quite annoying to have people constantly attempting to dunk on you for upvotes and failing.

Might have to block Fedia.io

I suspect this will go there so hi fedia...😒

@[email protected] I'm on my own instance and they cannot track me through fediverse. stop spreading misinformation in my post, thanks.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (3 children)

@[email protected] They don't get any data that other instances don't...? I don't get your point...

@[email protected]

I wish there was an easy way to browse threads Fediverse content.

I'm sure there's many accounts that have federated that I'd enjoy, but I don't know they're federated or even know that they exist.

Same for bluesky.

I could go there, but there's no way to tell who's federated.😩

@[email protected] @[email protected] it should send delete requests to every instance that it was sent to. It should know that because my server has to actually send the post. Maybe I'm misunderstanding things but this seems like it should be an easy thing to do.

Kinda weird and sus that some Mastodon instances aren't respecting deletes....

Had a post I deleted last week that just got replied to, from a mastodon instance.

And people wonder why casual users don't wanna be here...🤦‍♂️

Apparently I have a habit of finding out about Fedi projects ahead of time. Causing me to get excited and leak them before they're announced.😅

That's either whoops or hurray!

Still trying to judge which it is.🤣

Posted about BridgyFed before Ryan announced it was live and just found out I posted about sub.club before it was announced officially.

Ya'll not very good at hiding things tbh! :kek:

As a single user instance, I'm glad to see something slighly positive from Mastodon finally.

Still no word on better moderation tools for small instances, though.

Maybe someday.

How the whole "open communication across platforms" is going...🤦‍♂️😩

Just seen someone unironically call Fediverse, "The Mastodon Network".

I don't have the energy to correct them anymore.

I, for one, refuse to bow to Mastodon overlords.

To each their own though.😑

When discussing BlueSky, it's not entirely correct to say that "everyone is on the same server".

I used to think the same way.

However, I've been informed over time, by very knowledgeable people that it's more complicated than that.

If you're knowledgeable about Fediverse and how the protocol works and are interested in a comparison, I posted a detailed explanation of my understanding of how BlueSky works and what I believe are it's shortcomings here:

Did you know that Pleroma, a Fediverse software, has the option to make "followers only" posts that reach their instance, public on their instance if they choose?

They can also automatically deny deletion requests if they want.

It's always important to remember that there's very little privacy on the internet. If you post something, even if it may seem private, always has several ways of going public and existing forever.

Pretty much everything on the internet is public and will not be deleted on request.

Screenshots and internet archive also exist.

If you don't want your post to be seen by most people, don't post it.

You are not safe just because the software or platform you're using says you are.

Just about to watch @[email protected]'s recent video on the Fediverse!

I'm sure it'll be good. He's very knowledgeable in this space.

He was and still is one of my first friends here and I'm glad to have him a part of my Fediverse experience.

I'm always pretty sad when I go back and check on new users that I had welcomed and suggested they post an introduction, only to realize they never did and never made another post....

I have a feeling some of those people are the "Fediverse is too confusing!" People, yet they don't even try.🤦‍♂️
