We live in a nation of people that are a mix of uneducated and propagandized. If the party messaging doesn’t take that into account, that fault lies with them in addition to the voters.

The people going absolutely ballistic over pointing out the flaws of the Harris campaign are wild. If seeing someone criticize a politician makes you that upset, in all sincerity, log off. If you can’t differentiate criticizing a politician, campaign, and party from supporting their opponent, you have been sucked into an anxiety/rage spiral and you’re helping nobody, especially yourself.

There is nothing useful in screaming at your allies because you don’t like seeing the post-mortem. And make no mistake, anyone who didn’t vote Trump is either your ally or someone you need to make your ally. Some Trump voters are even going to need to be your allies when they see and regret what they did.

You are preaching to the choir, I have viewed Democrats as fair weather friends for at least the past 20 years. Some of us are old enough to 'member getting thrown under the bus to get ENDA passed, which didn't even happen. :') We should still shout it from the rooftops that it will gain them nothing to abandon trans people.

It's okay to take context into account and not just look at it as a math problem. Targeting a minority isn't the same as doing it to people who make up 90% of society but are whiny.

Have the numbers for that come in yet?

IIRC it's a lot harder (legally and practically, because figuring out which applicants are transgender requires sifting through paperwork) for them to invalidate passports that have already been issued. I got my first passport before the first Trump term with my correct name and gender on it and had no issues, but all the paperwork went through during the last days of the Obama admin. I do remember hearing about people having trouble getting the right passport after he came into office. So if you want it and can afford to pay to rush it, it's not a bad idea.

Edit: I would say that probably the people most in danger of having their passports invalidated soon after he takes office are people with X for their gender marker. That would be much more simple than invalidating every trans person's passport that has an M or F on it.

Plenty of times someone's sexuality is held above someone's head, quite literally in the case of this casual fishing game where I feel it doesn't even slightly belong

As a gay dude with a rainbow hat IRL this made me lol. I’m not wearing it to pick people up, I’m wearing it because I’m not ashamed of who I am. It’s not any different from wearing a wedding ring, couples shirts, or any of the million other displays of heterosexuality that you see and don’t think anything about.

PS: even if you are gay, internalized homophobia is a thing. Feeling that it’s super inappropriate to mention that you’re gay unless you want to fuck someone falls under that.

That’s part of astronaut training, they call it the vomit comet.

I feel similarly to the tumblr poster. Not because I think people won’t die (people died from bigotry in the 00s as well), or that everything will be okay soon, or that nothing can happen to me, but because this is a survival mode I’m familiar with.

You keep going and you find the comfort and the joy you can, and you protect and support the people you can. Some of the most joyful environments I’ve ever been in were gay bars in red states when gay marriage was illegal, and it wasn’t because everyone there had a perfect life.

I live in southern CA and burritos are cheap ✌️ Once a week it’s nice to not have to cook.

Her exile technically ended when the 2023 session adjourned. But the legislature did not meet in 2024, so she will make her long-awaited return to the House floor in 2025.

The fuck?

I’m just telling you it’s a bad idea to go tell a Mexican or Brazilian or anyone else not in the US or Canada that they’re part of the US hegemony ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don’t think they’d love being told by a tourist what the US did to their countries.
