I suppose part of it is that a lot of Reddit content was repetitive, and also, because Lemmy is still much smaller, there are less mindless posts and comments, which make me take contributions more serious and cause me to be less frustrated about scrolling over comments which are only empty noise

I've been told that it works something like each user is allowed to paint one pixel every two hours or so, so it really is about coordination with other users, and big images require a huge system of users. I've never seen it either, even without trying to avoid it

I've been on Reddit quite some years, but don't understand what the fuss about r/places is about. Would you mind explaining it to me?
