Until tonight, based on what happened in the 2022 elections I thought the GOP was way overplaying their hand on the anti-trans stuff. I thought most Americans are way more ambivalent than the GOP thinks they are. I still think that’s basically true, but the Democrats now can look at these results and completely back off from supporting trans rights (I mean, even less than their pathetic efforts before).

Yes, in my analysis Obama is like the transition period. His massive auto industry handouts won him Ohio in 2012 and otherwise he also would have been a 1 term president.

Alright I’m gonna read a bit of Stalin’s Foundations of Leninism as a purgative and then call it a night.

The red hogs. I mean, I’m glad that the woman who was a senior partner in genocide ate shit. But all the worst people I know IRL and online are evangelical trump supporters, and not only are they fucking ecstatic right now but they think they’ve been validated in their beliefs that the whole country agrees with them.

Consider the fact that from 1980-2016 (the era of neoliberalism), every president other than Bush Sr was a two-term president (and Bush Sr really was just Reagan’s third term). Then from 2016 on not only do we have single-term presidents, but we are switching parties each time.

Conditions are degrading and the nation that believes the only solution to problems is to vote is trying to mash the buttons to make things better

When the future histories talk about the fall of the American Empire I believe the first half of the 21st century will be talked about like we talk about Rome’s crisis of the 3rd century. A military, economic, and political collapse.

Militarily: Pulling out of Afghanistan, eating shit in Ukraine, one of the poorest countries in the world (Yemen) giving the most power navy in human history a black eye, and directing a genocide in Gaza

Economic: neoliberalism cannibalized the US productive economy so on-paper economic growth driven by people derivatives on ice cream cone sales.

Political: A democrat will win in 2028. Because we’re now in the terminal decline where everything just gets worse every year. Americans don’t know how to process this so they just blame the president. Obama is the last 2 term president the US ever has.

That is a more material impact to the state than the difference between a Harris or Trump presidency. Vouchers are really bad.

This was what I was hoping for but Harris is just getting destroyed, so it won’t come down to just Michigan. That said Harris ran an undeniably right wing campaign and ate shit. There’s still a narrative to tell there about how she killed the enthusiasm of her base and Gaza is definitely a big part of that story.

(Including ettingermentum’s comment because it’s funny)

I would say that her winning the upper midwest is possible - even probable - if it wasn’t for every single sign pointing to her underperforming there.

Maybe it’s me, but I think aggressively campaigning with a Republican who is the daughter of one of the most hated men in America is NOT a winning strategy for getting your Dem base voters to come out and vote for you. But I’m just a commie on the internet, what do I know…
