What purpose is it defeating if they are not storing anything besides your credit card payment information?

If the app implements their own notification system and doesn't rely on GCM then Google isn't able to log them as far as I know.

Well yes and no. You would still need access to your email as well for the login approval on ente auth.
Proton Pass and Ente Auth are both convenient and secure imo.
