I'd like the limit the amount of posts of vintage or antique items that are no longer in production.

YES. Thank you. This is the kind of community I've been looking for.

The Fall Out Boy remix of Hand Crushed By A Mallet by 100 Gecs (https://spotify.link/Vtwt9T0DhDb) is absolutely fantastic, a brilliant pop punk cover right up until the end when it's just melted into absolute fucking noise. I get it, it's Gecs. But just let it be a good cover - please.

Looks like they did get the message with their most recent album as it's a lot more listenable.

Really pleased to hear this. I will be staying on Beehaw for the foreseeable future, I'm on the same page as the admins.

That's sad. But do you think it's less to do with wanting to own a bigger car, and more that regular people can't really afford to buy new cars anyway? So the sample size is skewed in favour of rich people (or moderately well off) who can actually afford a new car in the first place?

Maybe that's why we are seeing a surge in e bikes.

I live in the UK and I drive an Astra. It's a four door hatchback style car from the late 00s, I bought it used and still runs fine even if it's getting on a bit. I know it won't last forever, so I'll probably buy another used car.

Right now, it seems like every new car for sale is a SUV - maybe a crossover which is more moderately sized, but basically an SUV. Buying a new car like my Astra feels niche, I don't think I have ever seen one at a dealership in the last 5 years.

What's going to happen to all of these SUVs in 5-10 years? The used market is going to be filthy with them and people are going to buy and drive them because they'll be cheap - regardless of the fact they are unsafe, costly to run and damaging to road infrastructure. I don't think we will see any car other than a SUV style car, or a van, on the roads in 5 years.

Does this not terrify anybody else? Something has to change here - either a shift to micro mobility scooters and e bikes or a massive increase in transit investment - or we are headed towards an even bigger disaster. Anybody else feel this way?

Well said. Archer could have been such an interesting character who grows throughout the series, and I think that was much of the original plan, but I think the writers were straight up exhausted from TNG - DS9 - VOY for like 30 years and gave up trying.

9/11 allegory with the Xindi - I mean, it was a pretty big event and it's only natural for America's biggest sci fi show to try and tackle it. The Xindi arc was interesting and I think really good in some parts - but it didn't feel like Trek to me. This wasn't the show to try it on.

I feel so bad for Scott Bakula. This was going to be an absolutely defining role for him but he was given nothing to work with, and was cut loose right when the interesting stuff started showing up. I really want him to get another chance to shine, with some decent writing up to the calibre of Strange New Worlds at least.

Thank you, this is great advice

Yeah if I had full warranty I would be happy taking a punt but not sure I should take the risk... probably better to wait for a sale

There's a great deal on a drive from Amazon Warehouse, but I'm a bit concerned about the quality of the drive and the fact I can't return it.

Anybody have any experience buying something like this?

Nothing else to say other than this is an interesting plan! I would really love to see the original cast return.

You're right...I am thinking it would basically be a reboot. Or some kind of time shenanigans which change history. Not sure.

I've been looking for the Good That Men Do for a while, no luck yet...but I hear it's good!

They kind of had to get up to speed quickly to even have a fighting chance against the enemy of the week. To be fair, when they went up against the Xindi it was pretty clear the NX-01 had barely any chance, it was in pieces.

Some of the best moments of the series was when they'd rig up something out of the primitive tech they had like the grappler and figure out a way to punch way above their weight in fights. So I don't think they fully lost the scrappy underdog status.

Sometimes I feel like I'm part of the minority who actually enjoyed Enterprise. Sure, there were some stinkers but the world was incredibly interesting and in Series 3 / 4 I really felt like it scratched that Trek lore itch for me.

If Enterprise was to be rebooted for a series 5, perhaps on Paramount+ or another streaming service, what would it look like? I don't think Jolene Blalock would come back but I'm sure Scott Bakula could be convinced as well as most of the other actors.

I would really hope they keep the early 2000s aesthetic of the NX-01 and all of the retro low-tech gear, perhaps show a gradual transition into the aesthetic of Strange New Worlds. You could mix in some time shenanigans to explain why things look different than they did in TOS and make some fun callbacks, like In A Mirror Darkly.

There's a lot of room to move before the series finale happens - or you could just retcon it and present it as a deep cover-up. So many opportunities! I want to hear this community's opinions!

I haven't listened to this podcast before but got interested when Spotify recommended it to me. Nick Offerman is an avid cyclist and has a lot of things to say about the benefits of walking and cycling and how we can better connect the city with the natural environment. Was a really interesting listen - I felt this community might enjoy!

I feel that this problem has only got worse with the popularity of SUVs. I live in a small town in the UK with a large number or wealthy residents who love their posh Land Rovers. They make driving around the streets a mess - lots of waiting for people to pass due to an effective one way street or because their car is way too big and I can't safely squeeze past them. If they all had regular cars like me traffic would be able to move a lot easier.

Hi all. I currently have a SFF pc (HP Optiplex-like but smaller) running Plex and some other software. Happy with my software setup for the time being.

However - I'm stuck with what to do next on the storage front. I have a 5TB external HDD that's plugged into the little PC and that's basically what I use for all of my storage. This isn't enough (running out of space) and also doesn't feel very versatile.

Where to from here? I don't know whether to go the RAID route and buy an enclosure that supports it, or just get a bunch of drives and chain them together. A Synology NAS seems way too expensive. What should I do?

I'd probably bet that the people that have filtered through to Lemmy probably already have their own data storage already sorted - you've got less "casuals" as it were. I use Google Drive myself, trying to figure out an alternative.

Quite excited about this! I know we have a few posts on this community already dissecting the trailer but I always enjoy Egg's take on things.

I think I'm most excited for the deeper simulation control - and seasons!

Is there a Cities Skylines community out there? I'm a big fan of the game and with CS2 coming out I'd love to chat with others about it.
