Thanks for the Snopes link, that gave some more context. I still can't believe no one figured out who she and the others are. It's just mind boggling to me, maybe because she's young-ish, that no one was like oh my god is that Sharon??

I mean, that someone can live and do whatever they do, show up to this event with no mask and do this, and then go back to living a normal life is crazy to me. People lose their jobs for saying something racist on camera, and this person is full nazi-ing it up seemingly with no social consequences.

Yes, that's a fair point. Though, there are other materials that might be explored (types of metal perhaps?) for those that would prefer a non-plastic version.

The reason some might be concerned is that when "food-grade" plastics, like the polypropylene used by aeropress, are used and "exposed to hot water, they release trillions of nanoparticles per liter into the water."

The slight pressurization and the friction of the rubber plunger likely amplifies that result.

Ah, thanks for the info.

Alcohol is very heavily regulated, starting from creation, through transport and conditions of sale, to how, where, and when it is consumed, and what can legally be done after consuming it.

There is a lot of licensing and legal regulation surrounding bars and alcohol-sales businesses. I think you're confusing regulation and prohibition.

How are these people not named and shamed? They are just standing there in public with no mask on wearing a swastika and giving a nazi salute? And then, what, they go back to selling real estate or what..? When is this even from?

As I said, Gen Z has, so far, participated in the elections they've been eligible for at higher rates than any previous generation since the age of voting was made 18, including millennials.

The youngest of Gen Z is currently about 12 years old, so they've had less elections to participate in with a smaller percentage of their generational cohort able to participate. Nevertheless, so far, a higher percentage of eligible Gen Z voters have voted in elections than Millennials, Boomers, and Boomers Lite.

The youngest generational cohort that are all above the voting age are millennials, which have also voted at higher rates than Boomers and Boomers Lite at similar ages.

Four years ago, when the last presidential election occurred, the millennial age range was 24-39. Beyond that, I'm comparing generational participation in elections at particular ages.

Further, not all of Gen Z will be of voting age for this election, so the youngest generational cohort where all members of that cohort are able to vote is still millennials, i.e., millennials are the youngest generation able to fully participate in elections.

I'm not saying millennials are all "young," I'm saying that in terms of electoral participation statistics, they're the youngest generation able to fully participate, and that compared to when Gen X and Boomers were going, Gen Z and Millennials participate (and have participated) at higher rates than the generations above them.

This is contrary to the subtext of the Boomer Lite (Gen X) poster to which I'm responding that implies younger generations are too busy distracting themselves with their phones and video games to participate in politics.

The effect on extraction by the slight pressurization (and ability to change the pressure by how hard you press) and speed of use would be two advantages over pour over.

It doesn't require hand dexterity or, really, hand strength. Arguably a proper, well-made pour-over with a goose neck kettle takes more hand dexterity than an Aeropress. Basically you put the hot water in, wait, and then press the plunger. Body weight or mild strength is all it takes. I usually just put my hands on top and then lean with my body; that functionally makes it require no hand strength at all.

They're very affordable, so perhaps worth trying. Unless you are concerned about microplastics. The entire thing is plastic.

Edit: they have a newer, more expensive version made of Tritan crystal. I know nothing about the composition of Tritan crystal and whether there is anything that can leech or whatever from it, but I would assume it gets rid of the microplastic concern. Though I'm not sure what the "rubber" stopper is made from.

Whitmer polled 4 points lower than Biden against Trump. The best polling candidates are Buttigieg, Newsom, Harris, and, obviously, M. Obama, who polls as winning in a landslide but has said she will not run under any circumstances.

[-] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

According to the Ipsos poll, Michelle Obama, who beats Trump by 11 points.

Even Harris polls 2 points higher than Biden, believe it or not. Biden has had the lowest approval ratings in the history of modern polling, so finding a replacement that polls better than him wouldn't actually be that difficult.

I don't think the incumbent advantage is as meaningful when you're literally the least popular president of the 20th and 21st centuries. And, yes, that includes Trump. Think about that.

Because Trump is winning in the polls handily and has robust support from his base.

Biden is the opposite: he's losing in the polls, his disapproval numbers are the highest in the history of modern polling, and many of the people that will vote for him will do it only because they have to.

Ok, so obviously no one here has done anything to make this world what it is. Wall Street, corporations, and racist social structures are why the world is how it is, and that is just the truth.

I don't understand why I should feel bad about anything when obviously all of these rich assholes and structures of oppression exist. I didn't make them.

Until the corporations and wealthy people change, why should I feel guilty or bad about things. This literally isn't my fault, they did this, so I just feel like I should be able to live my life and not have to worry about all this. Why can't I?
