Sounds like a good start to me. If you're not happy with the location, I think you can relocate your main base if you have the time and patience to tear everything down and store the raw materials. You're in Shek territory if you're south of the Hub so expect them to stop by to demand tribute. Which to them means forcing their way to your food storage and stealing what they can. It's probably the easiest next to UC (which just want money).
I started my first base in Bast. Ended when I was raided by slavers (I accepted an escaped slave a few days prior).
