You get where he is by starting with a massive pile of money. His father funneled hundreds of millions to him. He would be doing as good or better if he had just stuck it in an index fund and drawn his salary from it. Meanwhile the real estate market in his lifetime has exploded in value. If he was smart or any good at it he would be richer than he plays on TV.

His move from unsuccessful but still rich "developer" to celebrity then president is down to three things. The apprentice where he pretended to be richer and more successful than he actually is, a massive backlash against the first black president, and the fact that he faced off against Obama in the public eye and put himself forward.

He is basically the fucking avatar of ignorant, stupid, white privilege. A man who "succeeded" in terms of not losing the hundreds of millions of dollars given to him convincing himself and others that he hit a triple when he was born on third base and gabbed and postured his way into the head of a crowd with no higher aspiration than making America white again.

To be smart is to have universal reasoning skills. Having particular skills doesn't make you smart. Plenty of people have worked to acquire narrow skills without having much general intelligence.

There are a lot of people not worth attending to. If you do spend your time listening to these folks you don't hear new ideas you hear the same bad ones over and over. It would be lovely that having noticed that someone is a persistent holocaust denier he could be added to a list that would disappear not only their contributions but their votes as well for thousands of users.

Shame they didn't end up doing the gone world. If you haven't read the book I highly recommend it.

Jesus McDonalds is only edible if you eat it right after its cooked. Seeing as there isn't a drive through window in the white house I'm sure all this shit was already cold and shitty.

Is it hard to imagine noticing that an account you generally trust has voted and matching their vote, even subconsciously?

Not only is it not hard to imagine its easy to imagine the benefits of using this information automatically. I could imagine a client side script which re-ordered content based on who I trusted who had up or down voted it.

So I have users A B C D E F who are known to me who have voted on a given post. D and E are idiots I disregard their votes. F literally hates everything I love so I count his votes inversely. A and B are fantastic I count them x10 I tend to agree with C so I count his x2.

Not only can I potentially re-score threads and comments based on whom I trust I can if I really trust someone's opinion apply their weights as well, and the weights of the folks upstream.

It's possible for both things to be true. Human reviewers might be biased towards awarding higher scores and the computer could be dog shit at scoring. I have no idea how this can meaningfully be grading fluency. Fluency in a spoken language consists of vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.

I have seen plenty of people who were very fluent who speak with an extremely noticeable accent who were none the less comprehensible. Software is extremely likely to perform poorly at recognizing speak by non-native speakers and fail individuals who are otherwise comprehensible. Because it wont even recognize the words its nearly entirely testing pronunciation and then denying such students access to electives that would allow them to further their education.

Counting people here illegally is admittedly a challenge but Pew thinks there are about 11M undocumented immigrants from anywhere. Meanwhile there are about 60M Hispanics in the US including citizens and legal residents of which about 20M were born elsewhere.

He sounds like he's either conflating all foreign born or more likely yet just making up a scary number.

A shelter is normally dorm style sleeping arrangements with lunatics and meth heads sans food or anywhere to be during the day. Not all places will even offer food or medical even

neither babies nor young children have the faculties for this task. 16-18 is literally the only reasonable choice

Why would the standard be "want to vote" versus are capable of voting. We don't let kids drive cars at the age that they want to drive. The existing standard of 18 is better. I can very well see letting some 16 year olds vote based on having obtained some substantial responsibility within the community but it would be completely abused to give little upper class white kids yet another leg up so its safer to just make it either 16 or 18 for everyone.
