Andrew is ignorant. He could learn the basics of computer literacy, which would answer all his questions, but I'll take a shot in the dark and say that Andrew doesn't want to do that and is perfectly happy being ignorant. And also angry.

Somebody is obviously trying to cover all the bases. That's just good thinking. If ghost are real, they get zapped. If they aren't real, they get to chase a group of adolescents all over the place for about 20 minutes before said adolescents figure out it's not a ghost for the umpteenth time.

I don't know, we'll just have to see. But personally, I am not a fan of tying so many functionalities to systemd.

I used to love Chilli con carne, but not anymore. One day I woke up not feeling well and we were having Chilli con carne for lunch. Despite my condition, I sat down at the table and started eating. It didn't last long. In a few minutes, I was feeling queasy and had to dash to the bathroom to throw up. Ever since then I can't look at, smell or eat a Chilli con carne dish without remembering that day.

Nah, that would just make me a dick.

At one time I did, and to my surprise, my friend did just that! Unlocked their phone and handed it to me without a word. Welp.

I tried arguing against this, but it's no use. I tried pointing out how something can be branded illegal retroactively, like 20 years down the line, I tried the "give me your credit card info" approach, nothing took. 90% of the time the counter-argument is usually something to the effect of "big companies know everything about me anyway", which is just guessing on their part.

I'm just going to take care of my own privacy, because I'm clearly in the minority (present company excluded, of course). Almost everyone I know disregards online privacy completely, so I'm done trying to get a dialogue going with these people; it's every man for himself. The only way online privacy will become a hot topic among laymen is when something nasty happens and at that point, it will have been too late.

You leave my unhealthy obsessions out of this!

It's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard, and we're gonna have to work at this every day. But I wanna do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever. You and me. Every day. You piece of shit.

Having spent five years on Linux with an nVidia card on my previous laptop, I can safely say my thrills are exactly nil. Hearing the words "nVidia Optimus" will legit put me in a bad mood.

Post was not made by me, by the way. I didn't leave (or join) PINE64, it's just the title of the article.

This is hilarious. Blizzard created Diablo Immortal with the express purpose of getting their foot into the Chinese market. Then some genius at Blizzard had the brilliant idea to make a post on Weibou (a social network in China) to make fun of Xi Jinping:

Welp, there goes that Tencent money. Couldn't have happened to a nicer company, too.

For me, they're more trouble than they're worth. For wanting to support your favorite artists, I'm rewarded with unskippable trailers and FBI warnings, and if you want to play Blurays on PC, well... Just take a look at this. Keydb files? BD+ decryption? What happened to just putting the stupid disc in the machine and hitting play?

With pirated movies and shows, I just double-click on a file and away I go. Why would I ever want to go back to Blurays?

There are so many options out there, it's kind of dizzying.

I'm looking for a cheap solution that I could hook up to a TV and ethernet, so it could run a flavor of Linux (or BSD) and play videos at 1080p. Bonus points if it can handle 1080p@60 FPS. Other than that, it would be used for light web browsing.

I was looking at Raspberry Pi 4, but is there anything else you would suggest?

I'm just screwing around with the OS, but I have to say, I'm a bit perplexed.

I wanted to install GIMP and LibreOffice, so I clicked on the AppCenter only to find out it couldn't find either of them. Which is bizzarre, because I can install both using apt just fine. As it turns out, the AppCenter only has 51 curated applications, completely ignoring the abundance of programs already available in the Ubuntu repositories, making the AppCenter a bit useless.

Then there's the desktop. I'm not entirely sure why I'm not allowed to have icons on it. macOS has desktop icons. As does Windows. Hell, almost every OS with a GUI does. Apparently, there's something called Elementary Tweaks which lets you enable them, but why would anyone have to jump through hoops to enable this basic functionality?

I guess I just don't understand who this OS is meant for.

I'll be honest, this is as much a question as it is a vent.

Specifically, how do you deal with people you meet everyday like family, coworkers, etc. who just revel in conspiracy theories?

I have a coworker who is dead certain 5G somehow produces the coronavirus, despite easily verifiable facts in microbiology and physics showing otherwise. He's a nice guy in general with a degree in electronics, but dear lord, when he starts with this tin-foil hat bullshit it ruins my day.
