Yeah I have Verizon's 5G Home Internet. It costs roughly the same as the local cable company's service with similar latency and far better speeds and reliability. I've had one total outage over the last four years that lasted a few hours, and they gave me the month for free as compensation.

I don't see a reason to switch back to the cable company (my apartment isn't equipped for fiber so the local ISP offering fiber isn't an option).

Your first point is super accurate ime. I've definitely seen instances where a dev is asking for $15-30 monthly just to have access to an EA or beta version that might take anywhere from six weeks to six months (or more) to arrive.

Like I get that game dev isn't easy, and I definitely wanna support you, but my dude, I'm not paying you hundreds to (potentially) thousands of dollars over the years to play an incomplete game that's still gonna take you seven more years to complete, if it ever even gets completed.

I've flirted with Linux for years, all the way back to Fedora Core 6. I still use Windows, so 11 is my most recent version, but it's stripped down using the AME playbook. I use it to play some games with anti-Linux anticheat. I also have a minimal Windows VM on my desktop for playing Destiny 2.

That being said, my primary computers run Arch (custom built desktop) and Fedora (Framework laptop) and I have zero intention of ever using Windows as a primary OS ever again.

Server is on 24/7 and it has a UPS for the momentary brown outs I have during heavy winds. It would be silly if it's off for any reason besides maintenance, even more so since it holds multiple game worlds in addition to some web and chat stuff.

I've never even heard of this game.

What do you think about translating games with questionable quality? Should such efforts be encouraged or discouraged in the gaming community?

I mean, I don't really think so. I'm sure many people would rather another game be worked on, but who are we to tell others what to do with their time? Besides, even bad games deserve preservation, I guess.

Good luck to SnowyAria.

"Do you sell TVs?" (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 year ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

This one was a little over a decade ago, when plasma TVs were still manufactured and sold, and LCD TVs were still catching in terms of awesomeness.

I was a young, bright-eyed electronics associate working for the big "blue and yellow save money" company. This particular day was a steady but peaceful day, and I was working the counter, cashing people out and directing them to various areas in the department where they could find things.

I had just finished ringing a customer out for a PS3 game when a fella walks up to the counter and the following exchange took place:

Strange Customer: "Hey man... do you sell TVs?"

Me: caught off guard by the question, I slowly turned to the TV wall that sat in full view roughly 30ft away, filled with 30+ different TV models, then slowly turned back to him "Sir, I don't think I can help you."

SC: "Oh alright man, no problem."

And then he just left. It remains, to this day, the most bizarre customer interaction I have ever had, and I would not be surprised if it was a part of a YouTube prank video. I've been at the store I work at for over 13 years now, and nothing has topped this one for weirdness.
