The dishwashers video made my family fall in love with this guy, and now we're watching random videos a few nights a week. We love his cheeky nerdy vibe, he's so much fun. Really excited to hear what he has to say about awnings!

They do. I have a pretty good memory for prices (thank you, autism and poverty!), and the delivery app prices are inflated. I have downloaded them a couple times while hanging out with friends who live closer to town, started looking at menus, and then deleted the app and lobbied the group to just order from a place that has its own drivers.

idk, I think the shooter not being a lib means Trump isn't going to come at them hard yet, so they're safe for now and not going to feel as threatened (especially with the shift in language), and I don't think they're going to be motivated by fear in that way.

It was pretty close last time, and that was after Trump bungled COVID, and the supply chain issues and inflation rising made the economic issues obvious to everyone.

Genocide Joe has not helped Average Joe's economic situation, COVID is still a huge problem, he's doing a genocide, I and my neighbors have to travel 5+ hours one way (and stay in a hotel) to get an abortion, he hasn't protected our trans kids and comrades, he's doing a genocide, he's enacting Trump's border policies, he's dumping money into the carceral system and military-industrial complex, he's doing a genocide, he has increased environmental fuckery and put a tariff on solar panels, he started a war in Europe and seems to want to start one in Asia, and oh yeah, he's doing a genocide. Voting for Joe Biden is not exciting for anyone not employed by or related to him, and we know enthusiasm matters for turnout.

I loathe Trump, but I can see how heroic and awesome this incident has made him look to his fans and otherwise disinterested people. Voting for him will be exciting for them, and I get it. I hate it, but I get it.

idk duder, just wanted to comment to bump and to say that this sounds absolutely awful 😞

I had one bad mushroom trip in my early 20s during which I thought my boyfriend and friends wished me bodily harm, and I still remember it as one of the worst experiences of my life. I can't imagine going through that every couple of months, and I'm amazed that you've gotten through it this long.

Hopefully somebody has some answers for you. Care-Comrade

I heard on an ABC (American) newscast today that he shielded his wife and kids with his body, which is why they're calling him a hero, but everyone qualified that statement with "his wife claims that he..." soooooooo 🀷

I just found it interesting that they weren't reporting it as fact but as hearsay when it should be super easy to figure out, there were a ton of cameras

This is pretty slow, especially the first 15ish, but he eventually gets into what was actually helping his patients (vegan diet, exercise, community support) instead of surgery, how this began to make it feel wrong to do the surgeries he had been doing, and why that made him quit.

Spoiler: he found the need to make money for the hospital system to be conflicting with what was best for his patients.

None of this was really new to me and probably won't be too you either, but it was nice to hear a neurosurgeon talking about how fucked the medical system is, even if it's in relatively bland language.

I realize it's not really a podcast, but there's not enough visual component to really count for another community, so I'm posting it here. Please lmk if it should be somewhere else.

You inspired me to look at the menu for our local Taco Bell – even without the DoorDash fees, it's only $0.86 less here in southern Ohio 😐

What're you into, what're you looking forward to, what're you happy about?

Please

I am feeling terribly self-harmy in advance of my birthday next week

I got to the point of making a pros and cons chart

give me something to be vicariously happy about or something to look forward to, please

One of my favorite podcasters rants about everything that's wrong with the world and inches closer to a materialist understanding of why that is. Hoping that someday Gabrus will be a Hexbear.

His guest is fun up until the very very end, when he talks up some Sandler movie he watched recently that sounds zionist and awful, but Gabrus immediately pulls the ripcord on the interview when that comes up, so it's literally the very tiny end of an otherwise entertaining episode ranting about the evils of capitalism.

The pool collected rain overnight, so he had his favorite kind of morning:

getting totally saturated then chasing the ball around.

Today, we will do lots more ball

lots of pool time

and probably some treats and naps

This is Bette. Look at those beautiful eyes 😍 the rest of the buff orpingtons have golden eyes to match their feathers, but hers are green.

I was trying to get a picture of the flock munching on the strawberry & cucumber scraps I put out for them, but she needed to be the star of the photo shoot.

A couple half-successful pics of happy monching:

My favorite chicken, Ada, is still in protective custody with the baby guineas, or she would have been the star through sheer force of personality.

The adult guineas are terrible parents and step on their babies, and they eventually kill any I let them keep. This broody chicken was so happy to have them, and she's a wonderful mom. Whenever I bring treats to them, she checks to make sure it's safe, then calls the babies to eat before her. πŸ₯°

She has always been a standout sweetie pie and smartypeeps. She's been a lap chicken since she was a baby, and she's braver and more curious than the others.

Hey! Treat Lady! Less paperwork, more peeperwork!

She would perch on a box to get a closer look at my phone when I would take pictures in their enclosure when they were babies

and she would climb onto my hands as soon as they were in the enclosure and low enough for her to hop up, and she just wanted to be snuggled.

Hope you have enjoyed some cute birb pictures ❀️ wishing you all the cuteness and snuggles your heart desires!

it is <30' from the coop, in a spot where the birds all love to forage and have dust baths

it's also about 6' away from where they were when they attacked me two years ago πŸ˜” I am scared to be outside again, thank you, PTSD. I was doing so well, and it's not even supposed to top 80Β° today so I had big plans to do a bunch of work out there, and now I'm cowering in my house.

the entire reason we got ~~the guineas~~ these fuckers was to help with bugs generally but keep hornet nests away from the house specifically

contemplating some incredibly foolish shit, like trying to get an open bag of treats over there by the hole so the guineas will congregate - maybe I can use a fishing pole to drop it over there or something, idfk

even after we get rid of this nest, idk what I'm going to do. be afraid all summer again, I guess 🫠

This is what happens when you touch grass. Never Log Off.

it was, of course, the classic situation:

"All I need is for you to bring your truck! I'll have everything ready when you get here!"

πŸ˜‚ this has never once been true in two decades of helping people move, so when I volunteer to help "just move the mattress and table" I'm ready to pack shit up and clean too

really worried about this friend tbqh, kinda got some hints that there are very serious substance abuse issues happening

idk what to do except just try to be there when he needs us and keep trying to proactively check on him

My husband and I have an LLC for our work doing small engine repair. Occasionally our son helps a little, but otherwise it's just us.

My husband has a close friend and former co-worker who is losing their job, and we are very busy and could use help, but we are deeply morally opposed to profiting from someone else's labor. I was thinking that perhaps we could subcontract stuff to her for a little bit, and if things are working out, then we figure out how to restructure the business.*

There is a restaurant in a nearby town that is worker-owned, but I haven't asked there for advice partly because their structure is byzantine, and idk if that comparison is apples-to-oranges because of the wildly different industries.

*I understand that sharing ownership means sharing control. I would have qualms about that with pretty much every person I know because most people aren't as obsessed with details and informed decision-making etc as I am; I am not concerned about that with this friend, because she has the same flavor of AuDHD as I do. I was undiagnosed when we met her, and our striking similarities in personalities and behaviors were a huge part of the reasons for seeking diagnosis.

Also, it's a rural area, everybody knows everybody, and she is someone with deep roots who is pretty universally loved and respected. There are few people I would trust to try to step into my life and fill in for me if I were seriously injured, but I know she would give everything as much or more care than I do. She is the best.

This dude is experimenting with some neat stuff here. He created a stable, non-toxic PCM that can be recharged with the cold of a basement (or a hole in the ground!) using inexpensive ingredients (food-grade sodium sulfate, table salt, water, and xanthan gum) that reheats more slowly than ice.

He shows how to make little packs you can use in a cold vest and larger, torso-sized packs that could help a person with heatstroke using a towel soaked in the PCM and contained in a trash bag.

I think this is pretty exciting and could be a great project for mutual aid groups - would be awesome to have some of these cold packs to give out with a FNB meal.

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you wanna holler, "HI-DE-HO!"
Burns your tummy, don't ya know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

Grape wine in a mason jar
Homemade and brought to school
By a friend of mine, 'n' after class
Me and him and this other fool decide
That we'll drink up what's left
Chug-a-lug, so we helped ourself
First time for everything
My ears still ring

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you wanna holler, "HI-DE-HO!"
Burns your tummy, don't ya know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

4-H and the FFA
On a field trip to the farm
Me 'n' a friend sneak off behind
This big old barn where we uncovered
A covered-up moonshine still
And we thought we'd drink our fill
And I swallered it with a smile
I run ten mile

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you wanna holler, "HI-DE-HO!"
Burns your tummy, don't ya know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

Jukebox 'n' sawdust floor
Somethin' like I ain't never seen
And I'm just goin' on 15
But with the help of my finaglin'
Uncle I get snuck in
For my first taste of sin
I said, "Lemme have a big old sip!"
I done a double back flip

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you wanna holler, "HI-DE-HO!"
Burns your tummy, don't ya know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
