I wanted to ask this question to Americans, do you think it is ok for people who don't have a stake in USA future to discuss USA events and politics?

I personally think it should be encouraged, but I had met a very small minority of people who think it's not ok.

What do you think?

On the past 2 PCs I had, if I used earbuds I had to turn the volume down to 20% at the LOUDEST. Often times I had to go to 10% or lower to not utterly blow my eardrums out. Yet when I use regular headphones, 40% is an okay volume. I don't know if that's a problem specifically for Realtek audio drivers or the earbuds themselves. Is there a way to change this so I can have earbuds be quiter at louder volumes?

Ours plays the 1979 hit Music Box Dancer which is weird because it's definitely not public domain.

Some weeks ago, I've come across Delta Chat, whose main thing is "(near) instant messaging using your email"

That left me thinking, has this been attempted before? If not, why? Also, why (besides servers' limitations as means to fight spam) isn't this solution used more often, given that e-mail has been a decentralized solution for well over 40 years now?

Hypothetical: You have to walk 10 miles, >95% of it on sidewalks, through the bad part(s) of a dangerous American city starting at 9:00 PM on a Saturday night. Who of the following (in the body of this post) would you rather have as de facto bodyguards?

1a. Those randomly chosen consent and will collectively get $10 000 if you make through safely.

2b. No one in these choices is armed: at least not when you all begin your walk.

3c. 6 oz of alcohol is 100% and can be in the form of 12 oz of 100 proof booze, 48 oz of 25 proof wine, 192 oz of 6.25 proof beer, etc.

4d. The Roman, Chinese, and Zulu groups each have a middle age female translator.

16 randomly chosen female Americans, 25 to 35

12 randomly chosen male Americans, 25 to 35, 4'9" to 5'3"

12 randomly chosen male Americans, 25 to 35, each who has drunk 6 oz of alcohol in the past 30 minutes

12 randomly chosen male Americans, 55 to 70

24 randomly chosen Americans, 65 to 80

8 randomly chosen male Americans, 25 to 35

1 random person who's been in the US Marines for over 10 years, but is under 35

6 Roman soldiers (circa 100 AD)

8 Chinese soldiers (circa 100 AD)

4 Zulu warriors (circa 1600 AD)

as an aside, here's a fun thread from awhile ago by someone else: What are some underrated careers/jobs?

p.s. leaving this open-ended per community theme, we can get into specifics in comments!

Is there ever something that happened to a family member that you will ever know? Has anyone gone missing under mysterious circumstances? Is the place next to your great grandmother's friend's dad's house totally haunted?

I like pure red light (#FF0000) because its relaxing and lessens visual information overload

Baker-Miller pink is also interesting, was proposed to reduce violence and promote calmness in prison. Also very relaxing

I have a mech engineering background and have been tasked to look into electromagnetic product design in the coming years.

Before I dive deep and tackle this change, I would like a refresher on electromagnetic radiation, especially low power applications. Massive bonus points if there are any resources which include regulation too.

Anyone got any worthwhile resources?

A recent greentext post about an imaginary wife made me think of this.

Have you ever had a dream, where you fell in love with a dream character?

I've had at least a couple over the years that I can vaguely remember. The dreams were so vivid, and the feeling of love for this imaginary person was so strong, that I woke up feeling rather heartbroken and a sense of longing.

Anyone else?
