tl;dr: the United Fruit Company (today known as Chiquita) reaped massive profits from plantations in Latin America. When Guatemala started introducing laws that harmed their profits, the UFC and its pocket congressmen started putting pressure on the country and spreading propaganda, accusing them of being communists. When Eisenhower was elected, he used the CIA to overthrow the Guatemalan government in 1954 (as they did in Iran a year before). The UFC's involvement is known, but to what extent beyond slandering the progressive government, is not clear.
Definitely something that someone should name a clothing brand after!

True, I've clarified my comment.
I'm assuming it's because of united fruit overthrowing south American countries at the behest of the US government. Several good videos about it on YouTube.
It happened the other way around: United Fruit Company lobbied the USA to overthrow the progressive Guatemalan government.
You're right, careless mistake on my part.
