Its existence was a golden time as a thorn in the side of all Reddit libs. People would lose their minds about the place. The greatest loss of the reddit purge was r/genzhou . They never even gave a good reason why they banned it. The truth was because it was an excellent educational resource. It still hasn't been matched imo.
They banned genzhou for "quarantine evasion" after quarantining the main sub despite it not having the same purpose at all clearly and despite the fact they left up the_donald's ask sub which was run by the same people after their quarantine among others. It was bullshit and I told the mods they should point this out to the admins not that it would be reversed but to needle them without any real risk but I don't think they did.
I know that when CTH was quarantined they reached out to the admins "sodapoppin" or some shit name like that who had been the one to contact them when it happened. Despite reaching out several times asking for clarifications on rules/edicts given they never got a single response.
Contrast to the fact reddit admins openly and publicly admitted (in their ban statements among other places) they repeatedly engaged in back and forth discussions and chats with mods of reactionary hate subs they quarantined and eventually banned (all the while those same mods who reddit tried to bend over backwards for were sobbing about admin persecution). So if you were a reactionary far-right hate sub admins would talk to you, hash out particulars of rules with you, rule lawyer with you and try and work their darnedest to save you. If you were a leftist sub like CTH or Genzedong you got complete silence over months of time, no progress reports like reactionary subs got, no "try harder, you must do more" just silence and then a ban.
thanks Jessica Ashooh!
The banning of the educational resource while "only" quarantining the more meme-y sub was something I could not really wrap my head around at the time.
Not that I was happy with either, but it is telling that the purely educational resources was a bigger threat to them. Can't have people getting educated, that would just be terrifying.
They knew the quarantine was going to be a slow death for genzedong.
